FC Twente v Tottenham Hotspur
Can Tottenham round off a marvelous debut showing in the Group Stage of the Champions League by actually winning it? They simply need to match the results which Inter produces at Bremen to do so. See our full match betting preview here for tips
Bremen v Inter Milan
Well, Inter Milan are safe, but they are not in the ascendancy in the group. After losing at White Hart Lane, they find themselves behind Tottenham in the group on goal difference. They now need a helping hand from Spurs if they are to steal back top spot in the group. They need that of course, and to produce a win themselves. They have the harder of the two matches, having to go to Germany to face Werder Bremen, who have not picked up a victory yet in this year’s tournament. They have only just two points to their name so far from two drawn matches, one of them at home against Tottenham, so there is an edge of difficulty for the Italians in this one. However, Werder Bremen are not a particularly strong side, and are having a season of struggles both at home and in Europe. They have not found the goal scoring touch which they need, having only netted three in their five matches. Inter on the other hand have banged in a dozen goals to their name, so the strong expectancy is for Inter Milan to come away with a win, and to put pressure on Tottenham for top spot. Intriguing last two matches in Group A, but Inter make the sounder bet in this one.
Tip: Inter Milan 5/4 at Boylesports
Others: Draw 5/2 at Paddy Power, Werder Bremen 12/5 at Bwin
Group B
Schalke P5 W3 D1 L1 Pts 10
Lyon P5 W3 D0 L2 Pts 9
Benfica P5 W2 D0 L3 Pts 6
Hapoel Tel Aviv P5 W1 D1 L3 Pts 4
Lyon v Hapoel Tel Aviv
Where is this group going to go? Lyon, who are usually so strong in the group stages of the Champions League, went down heavily against Schalke on Match Day Five, losing three nil in Germany. That loss has pushed them back into second place, a point behind the German side. However, they will fully expect to pick up three home points in their final group match, which is against bottom side Hapoel Tel Aviv. That would fire them up onto twelve points, meaning that if Schalke fail to win, then the French team would take top spot. A great end to this group, which has produced some great entertainment. A win here for Lyon is worth backing, as they have the bit of class and experience needed in situations like this, even though their defence isn’t standing up very well at the moment. A good European team and they will come through. Hapeoel have had a rough ride, but with a win and a loss for Benfica, they could end up in third place to get into the Europa Cup. Unlikely to happen though. Go for Lyon.
Tip: Lyon 4/11 at Bet365
Other: Draw 4/1 at SkyBet, Hapoel Tel Aviv 8/1 at Stan James
Benfica v Schalke
Portuguese side Benfica put on a bit of a late show with a thrilling 4-3 win over Lyon, which really threw this group wide open. So there are warning signs there for the visiting Germans, as that is two wins from their two home games. Will they play another big part in determining the outcome of the group? Benfica will want to cling on to third place in the group to continue their season in Europe via the Europa League, so there is incentive there to put in a good performance. Schalke will still qualify even if they lose, but they will want to secure at least the point that will guarantee they finish top. For your Champions League football betting for this one, the best tip is to go with momentum. For all the good work which Benfica put into defeat Lyon, guess who they go and lose to in the following match. Yes, Hapoel Tel Aviv, 3-0. Too unpredictable to take Benfica, but Schalke haven’t won on the road, losing at Lyon and drawing with Hapoel. A draw makes some kind of sense here. It will be enough for Schalke and Benfica.
Tip: Draw 13/5 at Bet365
Other: Benfica 10/11 at Boylesports, Schalke 18/5 at William Hill
Group C
Man Utd P5 W 4 D1 L0 Pts 13
Valencia P5 W3 D1 L1 Pts 10
Rangers P5 W1 D2 L2 Pts 5
Bursaspor P5 W0 D0 L5 Pts 0
Manchester United v Valencia
The English side hold top spot in Group C and need just one point against the Spaniards to finish in top spot. They can’t afford a slip up though, because with a win, Valencia would steal top spot on goal difference. See our full match betting preview for tips
Bursaspor v Rangers
Well, this is a completely meaningless game, with Rangers on five points in third place and Bursaspor rooted to the bottom of the group with no points. Scottish Champions Rangers have put up a great showing in the Champions League this year, and everything could have looked better apart from a couple of very tight matches against Manchester United. However, they are in the Europa League now and will look to go out with a little bit of a bang away to the Turkish side. Hard to expect a hatful of goals though. Rangers have only scored two and Bursaspor have only hit one. It’s little surprise that Rangers won 1-0 against Bursaspor when they met at Ibrox.
Tip: Rangers 23/10 at Paddy Power
Other: Bursaspor 13/10 at William Hill, Draw 12/5 at SkyBet
Group D
Barcelona P5 W3 D2 L0 Pts 11
Copenhagen P5 W2 D1 L2 Pts 7
Rubin Kazan P5 W1 D3 L1 pts 6
Panathinaikos P5 W0 D2 L3 Pts 2
Barcelona v Rubin Kazan
The Spaniards have Group D all wrapped up nicely, as was to be expected really. However, they haven’t stormed their way to the top, having been held to two drawn matches. Barcelona have secured top spot as well, so they can enjoy something of a night off. This match really is all about Rubin Kazan and their battle to get into second place. This has been one of the most exciting groups in the tournament, and Rubin Kazan need to produce at least a point to keep their hopes alive. Naturally that is not going to be an easy task against Barcelona, who are the favourites to win the Champions League outright. Don’t read too much into the form of Barcelona in these group stages, because the seeded teams pretty much do enough to get the top done, and the real work starts when the knockout stages begin. The Russian side held Barcelona to one of those drawn matches, and now the return fixture really needs at least that, as a point and a Copenhagen win would put Rubin Kazan through. However, Barcelona’s slip ups have come on the road, and they are a different side at home. You would fully expect them to be too strong to let Rubin get away with taking more points off of them.
Tip: Barcelona 1/2 at Blue Square
Other: Draw 15/4 at Bwin, Rubin Kazan 13/2 at Totesport
FC Copenhagen v Panathinaikos
This is the success story of the Champions League this year, well up there with Tottenham’s at least. Copenhagen have helped give this group a fascinating twist this year, by showing that they can live with the best. The key to their success really came in the first match when they beat Rubin Kazan in Denmark. That set the stall for them to go forward. With a win over Panathinaikos away, the subsequent defeat in the Nou Camp didn’t ruin their chances really. Copenhagen held Barcelona to a draw back in Denmark to keep themselves in the hunt. On match day five, they traveled to Russia to face Rubin, but came away with a 1-0 loss, where are draw would have put them in a much stronger position. Now they may just need one more effort to complete the job of qualifying for the first knockout stage against the odds. A win would guarantee they go through in second place. While their fate may have to be in their own hands, they have the upper hand, the advantage of Rubin, who are just one point behind them, having to travel to the Nou Camp to face Barcelona. It is hard to see a win for the Russians there, so Copenhagen could be safe no matter what. However, the best way to make sure would be for them to win. Panathinaikos have only scored one goal in the competition so far, conceding ten, so things looks positive for Copenhagen. Incidentally, Copenhagen are a massive 19 points clear at the top of the Danish league, after just nineteen matches played. They have won sixteen, drawn three and lost none, and have won seven of their last eight. Incredible stats really.
Tip: Copenhagen 4/9 at Stan James
Others: Draw 15/4 at Bwin, Panathinaikos 15/2 at Bet365

Champions League
Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, Schalke, Manchester United, Valencia, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Real Madrid and AC Milan are the ten teams through to the first knockout stage of the competition so far this year. Arsenal’s lifeline is still on the line, and they need a win to guarantee their place in the last sixteen. There is still plenty to be settled on Match Day six of the Champions League, which is being played on December 7th and 8th, but these really represent the strongest teams in the competition. The best have already secured their places, and with some dominating names in there, you can already see where a likely winner is going to come from. The teams left chasing second place in their groups, will have to face the bulk of the seeded teams from above, so they are unlikely to progress too far. The other three English clubs, Chelsea, Manchester United, and to their great credit, Spurs, are all safely through without too many scares. Tottenham in particular have been a breath of fresh air for the tournament, and have produced two thrilling matches against Inter Milan, and they top the tough group, and in pole position to win it and be a seeded team. That doesn’t leave much for the defending Champions Inter Milan, who will have a tougher draw in the last sixteen against a seeded team.
Here we take a look at some of the best value Champions League betting odds around at the moment. There is still a lot of unpredictability to come, especially with the somewhat random draw of the last sixteen to come. Securing top spot in the group is vital, and here we look at the groups and beyond, picking out the best Champions League betting tips for you.
Barcelona – following their 5-0 demolition of Real Madrid, which Madrid boss Jose Mourinho insists wasn’t a humiliation, the Catalan side simply have every. They have incredible firepower with Lionel Messi and David Villa prowling around, an incredible midfield with Xavi pulling the strings, and a powerhouse defence. That having been said, they are not a perfect team, but they are close as it gets in Europe without a shadow of a doubt. You look down the list of main challengers and see Real Madrid, Chelsea possible and then Inter Milan and Bayern Munich, and you can’t see any of them beating Barcelona over two legs in the knockout stage. Not this year around. Their name really should be on the trophy at Wembley next year. Here are the rest of the prices:
Real Madrid: 7/2 at Bet365
Chelsea: 5/1 at Unibet
Manchester United: 9/1 at Victor Chandler
Arsenal: 16.1 at Stan James
Bayern Munich: 18/1 at Totesport
Inter Milan: 21/1 at Unibet
Really tossing and turning over this decision. This really is worth a punt, even though will all be dependent on the draw of course for the knockout stages. Chelsea are shorter in odds than any of the British teams gunning to win the tournament, and you always feel comfortable backing them in Europe. But as they showed last year, they are vulnerable, and the defeats this season in the Premier League are showing a bit of unrest at the club. Manchester United are simply not as strong as they should be, and will have a tough time coming up against tougher European opposition, who will dominate them in midfield. Was considering Arsenal for this category before their loss in Portugal last week, which may mean they end up as runners up and have to face a seeded team in the knockout stages. Arsenal will probably only get stronger over the course of the season, especially when Fabregas and Van Persie are both fit and firing. They have the European style need to go far, but there is still that extra all round quality at Chelsea which makes you want to take them over Arsenal. There are uncertainties and weaknesses surrounding all four British teams to be honest, but Chelsea have the fewest for a long European campaign, and really need to atone for last season’s disappointments. There is a little more composure and experience, even though they let themselves down badly last year. All draw dependent of course but the price is tempting enough to have a good punt, whether Ancelotti is in charge come the latter stages or not.
Really no surprise that the Argentinean from Barcelona is shortest in price for this market. Unbelievably he has stepped up another gear this season. Just watch him play for his club and you will see why he is regarded the best in the world. Inter Milan’s Samuel Eto’o is in cracking form for his club as well, but as we expected Barcelona to get a lot further in the tournament than Inter, then Messi makes the most sense. Messi is currently on 6 goals heading into Match Day six with Eto’o leading the competition on 7. Bayern Munich’s Mario Gomez is also in great shape in the goal scoring charts, as he is level with Messi on six goals. However, the talent that is in Barcelona’s side, the sheer overwhelming presence of attack, it is still worth settling on Messi to go all the way. He will get a lot more chances than the other players mentioned in front of goal.
This bet is in there simply because it still represents good value. Barcelona and Real Madrid are the two favourites to win the tournament. Therefore, Spain has to lead the way in betting for the winning nationality. With both of those two teams going strongly so far, they make a good choice for value as well as expectancy. This is probably the first season for a while, since there really has been such strong favourites to win the tournament outright. You look at the chasing pack behind the two Spanish sides, namely the English trio of Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal, and you can expect them to beat the English opposition to the trophy to be honest. England is 9/5 at Bwin in the market, but you look at the form of the teams in the Premier League this year, and have a hard time translating that into any of them beating the cream of Europe this year. Italy roll in at 9/1 at Bet365 in this market, and that shows how far back in favour they have fallen.
Safe bets, but still worth jumping on because they are available. Lyon are actually in second place going into the final round of matches, but they have a home match against Hapoel Tel Aviv, where group leaders Schalke, who edge Lyon by 1 point, have a much more difficult task away at Benfica. That is because Benfica will be holding onto the slim hopes they have of qualifying with a good win. It’s highly unlikely that Benfica will do anywhere near enough in terms of goal difference to steal second place, and that would hinge on Lyon losing, which they won’t. But, as Schalke are top of the group, they are second favourites to win it because of the fixtures list of Match Day 6. Still though, Schalke have a good defence and are strong enough to win in Benfica, so it’s worth grabbing those odds. Well worth doubling that up with Tottenham to win Group A. They have an away trip to Twente, who are out of the running, and Spurs will only need a point from that. Second placed Inter needs a good win against Bremen and a Spurs defeat in order to take top spot away from the London club. It’s not going to happen.
Fantastic odds really, and worth getting some money down on. Barcelona are the hot tip to win the tournament this year, so these really are decent odds. Chelsea are 9/5 at Bwin in the same market, and while more of an outside bet, it’s still good value in the hope that they will get through. Real Madrid are second favourites at Coral for 15/8. All of them really represent a good bet in this market, and it is betting without the added pressure of actually winning the tournament itself. This is backing a team to reach the final, not naming the finalists.
Well, the first knockout stage for 2/1 at SkyBet was the favourite price in this market. Is this a surprise? Of course, because Untied have a strong history with the tournament, but they have really been struggling through their Champions League this year. Even though they have picked up thirteen points from their five matches, there have only been six goals in total from United against some weak opposition. This is largely because Sir Alex Ferguson has been taking the group stage a bit lightly to be honest, just getting the job done with fringe players at time. In truth it is all that has been needed. There is a lot more to come from United one would think, so a Quarter Final appearance is a realistic target.
This is worth a punt. Tottenham have shown more than enough quality at home to at least make it past the first knockout stage. They should be able to cling on to to spot and ensure that they are a seeded team for the draw, and who knows from then on. They are a good passing side, and have performed much better at times in the Champions League than they have done in the Premier League. Decent price and well worth backing.

Champions League
They might have some dubious morals when it comes to getting their own players deliberately sent off, although Real Madrid are the team that have impressed the bookmakers the most during the group stage of the Champions League and many firms now make them joint-favourites with Barcelona to win the competition.
Real’s 4-0 win at Ajax cemented their place at the top of Group G and Jose Mourinho is now a best price 7/2 with Ladbrokes to guide a third team to European glory as manager. William Hill are as short as 11/4 about the Spanish league leaders who will take some stopping this season thanks to the amazing form of Cristiano Ronaldo and the creativity of Mesut Ozil.
Barcelona remain at the head of the market after a routine start to the group stage, with Pep Guardiola’s team winning 3-0 at Panathinaikos which means they can relax ahead of the final match against Rubin Kazan. Paddy Power offer 3/1 that it’s Barca that are celebrating at Wembley next May, although they did only manage to draw games in Copenhagen and Russia earlier in the group.
The four English teams will all take their place at the high table, providing that Arsenal don’t slip up against Partizan Belgrade. Tottenham Hotspur have been the surprise package after winning all three of their games at White Hart Lane and they appear to be in control of the group, something which has seen pre-season odds of 40/1 now halved to 20/1 (bet365).
Harry Redknapp will be confident that Spurs can land a win away to FC Twente and that is likely to mean Inter Milan go through as runner-up to face a tricky match against the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid or Chelsea. Rafael Benitez is finding it difficult to follow in the footsteps of Jose Mourinho and Inter are the big drifters on the outright market, with bet365 pushing them out to 20/1.
Chelsea are currently struggling for form, although firms aren’t taking Carlo Ancelotti’s team lightly this term and make them third favourites at odds of 9/2 (bet365). The Blues will go through as group winners and definitely have the squad to go a long way in this competition, although a Champions League triumph continued to elude the west London side and perhaps Manchester United stand a better chance.
The Red Devils have had a slow start to the season, although the return of Wayne Rooney from injury allied to the fact that Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand are now back in the centre of defence means that they could be the best value to win the Champions League at 9/1 (Blue Square). Sir Alex Ferguson knows what’s required to triumph in this competition, having lifted the trophy on two separate occasions.
Arsenal are not certain of qualifying and their defeat away to Braga means that they are likely to finish second behind Shakhtar Donetsk in Group H. It would mean the Gunners facing a very tricky last sixteen opponents and they are now available at 16/1 (Ladbrokes) to win the Champions League.

Group A
Tottenham: P4 W2 D1 L1 Pts 7
Inter Milan: P4 W2 D1 L1 Pts 7
FC Twente: P4 W1 D2 L1 Pts 5
Werder Bremen: P4 W0 D2 L2 Pts 2
Tottenham v Werder Bremen
A big night for Tottenham as their Champions League destiny is in their own hands. A win against the Germans would send them through to the knockout stage of the competition, and then who knows. They have injury concerns over Gareth Bale and Rafael van der Vaart, but should be strong enough regardless to go on and get the job done. See our full match preview here
Tip: Tottenham 1/2 at Bet365
Other: Draw 39/10 at Unibet, Werder Bremen 6/1 at SkyBet
Inter Milan v FC Twente
Well, after their defeat away to Tottenham, the pressure is suddenly on Inter Milan. They find themselves level on points with Tottenham, but behind on goal difference. They need huge performances in terms of goals, or for Tottenham to slip up, if they are going to steal back top spot. Top spot secured a place in the seedings for the knockout draw, so it is important. Realistically they should win this one, as they have been strong at home, hitting four goals in each of their games there this season in the Champions League. It was against FC Twente which the Italians got off to a slow start against, drawing 2-2 away in Holland. Milan were favourites to take this group and now it looks as if they may well need maximum points from both of their remaining games. Then it is up to chance. Look for a Milan win here, they are better than their White Hart Lane performance. As for FC Twente, they have found the going a little tough again, but their only major mishap came in a 4-1 defeat against Spurs. A draw with Inter and Bremen, plus a win against the Germans have put them in decent standing. In fact if they beat Inter, they will leap frog them in the table and then the pressure would really be on Inter boss Rafa Benitez, as the club looks to defend their Champions League title. It is hard to see Twente lasting the distance though at the San Siro, therefore a home win is favourite.
Tip: Inter 3/5 at Unibet
Other: Draw 3/1 at Stan James, Twente 6/1 at Boylesports
Group B
Lyon: P4 W3 D0 L1 Pts 9
Schalke: P4 W 2 D1 L1 Pts 7
Benfica: P4 W2 D0 L2 Pts 6
Hapoel Tel Aviv: P4 W0 D1 L3 Pts 1
Schalke v Lyon
Lyon always seem to be involved in big matches for some reason. Anyway, the French side are at it against in this clash at the top of group B. Everything was looking extremely rosy for Lyon up until Match Day Four when they lost away to Benfica 4-3. That was a big surprise and has opened things up in the group nicely. Lyon and Schalke were the two strong sides in the group, who were expected to progress and they probably still will. However, out of the two sides the French are in a bit of a stronger position than the Germans. A defeat for Schalke could really leave them really, if Benfica win their match to jump ahead of them. Then it will be straight shoot out in the final round of group matches when Schalke and Benfica face off against each other. So the stakes are high for the Germans and there is a lot of football left to be played in this group. Lyon had the upper hand when they met in France, winning 1-0 in a tight match. Schalke then picked up two solid wins, but a 0-0 draw a fortnight ago against Hapoel really dented them. Now this is a much tougher home match for them than they would have wanted it to be, as Lyon are no pushovers. Over the past few seasons, Lyon have really shown a tenacity for this competition, an ability to dig deep and get the job done. That may just be enough to help them here, and really they would be happy with a draw. Football betting for this one should look towards a Lyon Draw No Bet sort of angle. Schalke have, by and large, been in miserable form this year, but are showing a bit more promise with two wins in three games in the Bundesliga. Should be a tight one, so head for neutral ground.
Tip: Draw 12/5 at Stan James
Other: Schalke 7/5 at Unibet, Lyon 9/4 at SkyBet
Hapoel Tel Aviv v Benfica
Hapoel have really been making up the numbers in the group to be honest. Their 0-0 draw against Schalke will have been treated as a victory, a moral one at least. They are out of the running and it will be a matter of how professional Benfica can be in getting the job done in Israel. Benfica really need a win to put them in with a strong chance of qualifying against the odds. They host Schalke for their final group match, and that could be a decider as to who goes through. This is a really tight group and needs someone to stand up and take initiative. Benfica can do that with a good away win, but their away form in the Champions League doesn’t make for good reading. They have lost their two away matches to the scoreline of 2-0, but they did get the better of Tel Aviv when they played them in Lisbon, so you have to lean towards them getting a good result again. It will all be a matter of persistence for Benfica, as they will have to try and break down a diligent and hard working Hapoel side. Benfica though just have the edge in quality, and it may only take one moment of brilliant to be enough against Hapoel, who are a bit limited in their scoring capacity.
Tip: Benfica 8/11 at William Hill
Other: Draw 11/4 at Totesport, Hapoel 19/4 at Bet365
Group C
Manchester United: P4 W3 D1 L0 Pts 10
Valencia: P4 W2 D1 L1 Pts 7
Rangers: P4 W1 D2 L1 Pts 5
Bursaspor: P4 W0 D0 L4 Pts 0
Rangers v Manchester United
Another one which can be labelled the Battle of Britain, but this may all peter out into something less than spectacular. United will have Wayne Rooney back in action, and will be happy to get out of Ibrox with a 1-0 win, no doubt. United have not played well in Europe as of yet, and by the looks of things, this will be another battling, uninspiring encounter. The teams played out a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford, so Rangers will fancy their chances. They need a win to keep their hopes of qualification alive, because defeat would send them out of the competition, as Valencia will be expected to pick up three points against Bursaspor. A lot to play for from Rangers point of view. Will they be able to raise their game enough? See our full match preview here
Tip: Manchester United 5/6 at Paddy Power
Other: Draw 11/4 at Stan James, Rangers 4/1 at Victor Chandler
Valencia v Bursaspor
Quite liked the look of Valencia at the start of the tournament, but they haven’t been as strong as hoped. They have been efficient in finishing off the weaker opposition in the group, but they could have done so much better. A draw at Ibrox let them down, and when they had United on the ropes in Spain, they couldn’t find the finishing touch to get the big advantage down. They should be strong enough to still get this job done, and this should be an easy three points here, and if Rangers lose against Manchester United, that will secure Valencia’s progress through to the knockout stages. This is a team who are running fifth in the Spanish league, although they aren’t in the greatest of current form. The 4-0 victory by Valencia is a good indicator of the gulf between the two teams. Go for a strong home win for the Spaniards.
Tip: Valencia 1/5 at Victor Chandler
Other: Draw 6/1 at Bet365, Bursaspor 18/1 at Totesport
Group D
Barcelona: P4 W2 D2 L0 Pts 8
FC Copenhagen: P4 W2 D1 L1 Pts 7
Rubin Kazan: P4 W0 D3 L1 Pts 3
Panathinaikos: P4 W0 D2 L2 Pts 2
Panathinaikos v Barcelona
This has really been a fascinating group, although this match looks as if it will be something of a foregone conclusion. Barcelona have not been the all domineering force in the group as they would have hoped. Two drawn matches out of their four have slowed their progress a little bit, to some surprise. However, they have enough, more than enough in the tank to see out this group as winners. A win here could be enough to secure that, depending on what happens in the other match. Barcelona are having to chase the shadow of Real Madrid in the Spanish League, and they will be strong rivals for the outright winner of the Champions League this year. Barcelona will step up their game when necessary, and they remain one of the favourites. Don’t read too much into hiccups during the group matches, because the best teams can usually manage to get through to the knockout stage without having to break too much of a sweat. After thumping Panathinaikos 5-0 at the Nou Camp, there should be plenty of goals on offer for Barcelona again, especially against a Greek side which has only put one in the back of the net themselves in their four matches. Expect a solid win for the Spaniards.
Tip: Barcelona 2/5 at BetFred
Other: Draw 17/4 at Victor Chandler, Panathinaikos 8/1 at SportingBet
Rubin Kazan v FC Copenhagen
Copenhagen have been the surprise package of the tournament so far, really mixing it up well with Barcelona and Rubin Kazan. Those two were the strong favourites to qualify, but after Copenhagen shocked the Russian champions with a 1-0 win on Match Day one, the Danish crew have not ran out of steam. They followed that win with one over Panathinaikos, and then after losing 2-0 at the Nou Camp against Barcelona, put on a big game at home to hold the mighty Catalans to a 1-1 draw. That was a very important result for Copenhagen, as it kept their noses in front of Rubin Kazan by four points, which means that even if Copenhagen lose to the Russians, they will still hold a slender advantage to take to Match Day Six. It is a safety net at least. Not that Copenhagen should have thoughts of needing one, as they have played well and been a bit of fresh air. They have Rubin Kazan with all of the work to do, and they need to step up with a big performance to keep their hopes alive. Anything other than a win will put them out of the competition for this season. A little bit more was expected from the Russian champions, but with only three draws earning them points, they look a little short of that cutting edge. That was highlighted by a home 0-0 draw against Panathinaikos a fortnight ago. Copenhagen may be the better side here, but Rubin need an all out mighty effort, and they could just do it by a narrow margin. You expect them to win at least one of their matches, and it could be this one. Would go with home advantage on this one as desperate times often produce crazy results.
Tip: Rubin Kazan 18/19 at Unibet
Other: Draw 13/5 at Stan James, Copenhagen 7/2 at Bet365

Champions League
Rangers v Manchester Betting Odds and Tip: Manchester United head up north to face a Rangers side desperate for a win to keep their hopes alive. United have a great record in the Champions League away from home, and it is hard to see the Scottish challenge throwing them off the scent of winning the group. Even though United are sending a slightly under strength team out for the battle, the match should see the return of Wayne Rooney. A United win should still be on the cards, but it could be one which they have to work hard to earn. Unlikely to be anything more than a two goal margin of victory. Manchester United -1 Asian Handicap 7/5 at Victor Chandler
Rangers to win: 4/1 at BetFred
Draw: 11/4 at Stan James
Manchester United to win: 5/6 at Boylesports
Champions League Match Preview: It’s the Battle of Britain part two in this season’s Champions League, as Rangers welcome Manchester United to Ibrox. The Scottish Champions put in an admirable display at the start of the campaign, holding Manchester Untied to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford, when they hadn’t been given much of a chance in that match by anyone really. With Rangers going along at a fine clip in the Scottish Premier League again this year, there is a brimming confidence about the ‘Gers. The Scots will be keen for this one, and will be dreaming of a win which would keep them in the hunt for a qualification spot for the knockout stages. But there is a thin line between success and failure, and Rangers are on it. A defeat, plus a win for Valencia over bottom side Bursaspor, would mean that Rangers would bow out of the competition this year. Getting back into the competition will be harder next season, as there is no guaranteed place for the Scottish Champions anymore, they will have to go through qualifiers. This is something of a last big splash for Rangers this season. Not saying that they won’t be back, but the fact that they were drawn against Manchester United has added that feeling that they will be looking for something just that little bit extra special this year.
This is their chance to provide it. After three games in the group, Rangers were unbeaten, with two wins and a draw, but then a mighty away collapse against Valencia on Match Day Four hurt them badly. They are now two points behind second placed Valencia, knowing that they need a win to keep their dreams alive a little bit longer. Rangers boss Walter Smith has selection problems, as Rangers go into the match a little bit depleted. Rangers are waiting for clearance on Sasa Papac to play, after he picked up a concussion, and the defender is in danger of missing out along with Madjid Bougherra and Andy Webster. Rangers will miss the influence of Maurice Edu in the middle of the park as well. With the defensive issues happening, it may actually serve to help the game from a neutral point of view, as Smith may have to adjust and change formation to a more attacking line up. Understandably, Rangers have adopted a more cautious, defensive approach to their European matches (which served them so well at Old Trafford), which is more necessary than when playing their domestic games. If they do switch back and be all gung-ho about getting the win they will need against Manchester United, then they could give themselves a huge change. However, the Rangers defence will need to be stern again, just as they were at Old Trafford, as the night should welcome the return of Wayne Rooney to the United starting line up.
Yes, Rooney looks ready to make his return from his ankle injury to the starting eleven, and will be hoping that the United fans don’t bear him any ill will after he threatened to not sign a new contract following his concerns over dropping standards. United boss Alex Ferguson is ready to rest his main centre half pairing of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. This will open the door for Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans to fill in as a makeshift back line. United have not been great away from home all season, and in the Champions League, they have looked a little disinterested, putting in some very lack lustre performances. United have only hit two goals in their three matches, which as produced a draw and two wins. So in the intimidating atmosphere at Ibrox, United could find themselves in for a rough ride, especially if they are just going through the motions again. United would guarantee their place in the knockout stages of the competition with a win at Ibrox, but will face a gritty, determined Rangers side who are looking for a huge night in front of their home fans. However, United are experts at this, just getting the job done, and with a great record of eight away Champions League wins in their last nine matches, they are strong favourites to nick it. The last time United went north to Scotland to face Rangers in the Champions League, they earned themselves a 1-0 victory back in the 2003/04 competition.

Roma v Bayern
This is one of the top fixtures of the night for Tuesday’s matches. Last year’s finalists Bayern Munich are rolling along strongly in the group so far, having won all four matches played. They are going from strength to strength, and their opening night 2-0 win over Roma really set the standard. Although, to be honest, Roma’s standards have not been as high as one would have expected. Two wins and two loses for former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri’s men, really belies what a strong team they are. This is a team who are fifth in Serie A, having not lost in their last seven matches. They have a star up front in Borriello, and there is plenty of threat to come from them. However, they looked a much stronger tip at the start of the competition than what they do now. For some reason, their strong, organised play has not translated into Europe for some reason. Their saving grace really is that they do have the quality to pull through this. The 3-1 home defeat by Basel should never have happened, and they made hard work in gaining revenge in a 3-2 win. We are not seeing the real Roma yet, may this is the turning point which they have been waiting for. Roma need a win to add some security to their position of second in the group, there is a chance that they will get what they want. Bayern Munich are not as strong as their European form suggests. They are down in eighth in the Bundesliga, winning only three of their last eight matches. A draw is a strong possibility here, but as the need and hunger from Roma should be a little bit more, they are well worth a punt here.
Tip: Draw 11/4 at Totesport
Other: Roma 19/20 at Bet365, Bayern Munich 3/1 at BetFred
Basel v CFR Cluj
This match is going to fall under the shadow of the other Group E fixture, but there is still some good betting opportunities to look at here. This is a scrap between the two bottom teams, but there is still a big carrot dangling in front of their faces. If Bayern topple Roma again, then the winner of this match will be level on points with the Italians in second place. This is a match which both teams have to go for, and Cluj prevailed when the two sides met on the opening night, in a 2-1 victory. There really isn’t much to call between these two sides, but perhaps home advantage, and the boost gained in an away win at Roma, should give Basel the edge for your betting. Basel didn’t get destroyed by Bayern at home, and they really gave Roma a good old tussle in both group fixtures. On the other hand, Cluj performed well away to Roma and Bayern, then it all came crashing down in a 4-0 home defeat to the Germans two weeks ago. Go for a home win here, and things may just keep alive in this group until the last round of matches.

Chelsea v Spartak Moscow
Chelsea need a win to ease the pressure from the recent unrest at the club on the domestic scene. Boss Carlo Ancelotti looks relaxed amid rumours that he is about to quite. A comfortable home win against the bottom side in the group, should be a huge fillip for the London side. See our full match preview here.

Other: Draw 13/2 at Totesport, Zilina 22/1 at Extrabet
Spartak Moscow v Marseille
This is the big fixture of the group, and it should decide who finishes second to Chelsea. A lot more was expected from Marseille this year, but they have really been struggling by their standards. It all went wrong from the off really, losing their first match at home to Spartak Moscow. When Marseille then only struggled to beat Zilina 1-0, it didn’t look as if they were in with much of a chance of challenging for qualification. Then, however, they went to Zilina a couple of weeks ago and hit a record busting 7-0 win to leave them level on points with the Russians. Things really look a bit more bleak for Marseille to be honest, because they travel to Moscow tonight, which is not an easy place to go to and win, and they still have to face Chelsea in their final group match. The signs aren’t good, and the only way they are going to put themselves in with a chance is by beating Moscow. Do Marseille have it in them? It’s hard to see to be honest. Moscow are a fantastically organised side, and very strong at home. Chelsea produced a very professional display there to win, but Marseille will have a much harder time. A draw wouldn’t be a disaster for them, but the French really need a win, but it will probably be just out of their grasp.

Ajax: P4 W1 D1 L2 Pts 4
Auxerre: P4 W1 D0 L3 Pts 3
Ajax v Real Madrid
This has been one of the more entertaining groups, simply because it has been interesting to see the progress of Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho. Madrid look in a strong position to win the group, but there is an interesting fight for second place, after Milan held Madrid to a draw a fortnight ago. The other challenger for second place along with Madrid, is of course, Ajax. The Dutch side have a fantastic European history and are looking to relive some of the glory days. They seemed to be gathering momentum, and then something went horribly wrong at Auxerre two weeks ago when they lost 2-1. Fortunately, because Milan could only draw, it means Ajax are still in the hunt, but their chances are getting slimmer. They now need one more of those big European nights in an attempt to take out the might of Madrid. The Spanish side got the upper hand in a 2-0 victory over Ajax on Match Day One. Madrid have to be looked at as winners again, because as much threat and promise that Ajax have come into the tournament with, it hasn’t quite been up to the level that it should, or needs to be. Ajax haven’t won in their last three domestic fixtures either, while Madrid have won their last seven straight. Go with form, even though it is backing the away side. It is Real Madrid and Jose Mourinho after all.
Tip: Real Madrid 5/4 at Totesport
Other: Ajax 11/4 at Bwin, Draw 5/2 at SkyBet
Auxerre v Milan
This promises to be a good match. Auxerre played their way back into things, albeit still with an outside chance of grabbing second spot, by beating Ajax a fortnight ago. They now need a repeat of that effort away to Milan to throw things wide open. A win for the French side would put them ahead of the Italians and make for a thrilling Match Day Six when it comes. By and large, Auxerre haven’t had the cutting edge needed, and being drawn in such a competitive group, didn’t really help their chances from the off. They are picking their form up somewhat, just showing a bit more life in the team, and are unbeaten in five matches in the French domestic league. Milan, on the other hand are in fine form. They are top of Serie A, winning seven of their last eight games. They bounced back to hold their own against Milan, after they had lost to the Spanish side earlier in the group, and you have to look at them to come through this one. They have that extra class and quality, and while an Auxerre win would make things really fascinating in the group, it is unlikely that it will come about.

Braga v Arsenal
With the Portuguese side picking up back to back wins in the Champions League, and Arsenal losing on their last outing, things may look a bit closer than expected for this match. However, Arsenal are the quality side in the group, and they have proven that. Their defeat to Shakhtar was nothing more than a blip, and after beating Braga 6-0 on Match Day One, it should be another Arsenal win. They need it if they are going to secure top spot. See our full match preview here.
Tip: Arsenal 10/11 at Bet365
Other: Draw 11/4 at Stan James, Braga 7/2 at SkyBet
Partizan Belgrade v Shakhtar Donetsk
Shakhtar will go into this match knowing that they have a good chance of taking top spot in the group, and that makes a difference for the knockout draw in terms of seeing. The Ukrainians beat Partizan 1-0 on Match Day One and a similar result would put them in great standing for winning the group. They would need Arsenal to slip up again, but the win over the Gunners will have done Shakhtar a power of good. Partizan have not delivered at all. They were touted as being a disciplined, hard working team that really would make an impact, but the truth is they have been left behind. They lost at home to Braga on their last outing, and that really sums them up. Partizan have yet to hit a goal in the Champions League this season, and look in danger of going out with a whimper. They are already out of things, as they can’t qualify, so they would only be playing for pride. That should work further into the hands of the strong Ukrainian side, who have a lot to play for.

After Tottenham’s thrilling victory over Inter Milan, and Manchester United taking out Bursaspor 3-0, it is the turn of Arsenal and Chelsea in the Champions League betting for Wednesday. While the two English clubs are looking to protect their 100% records in the group stage this season, the big match of the night is arguably AC Milan v Real Madrid. There are plenty of interesting connotations to look out for on Wednesday night, and online bookmaker Unibet are offering refunds on lost bets for Champions League matches. If a Champions League match ends in 0-0 (and there were two matches ending in that score line last night), Unibet will refund lost stakes on Correct Score, Halftime/Full time and First Goalscorer/Last Goalscorer bets placed on a match. This is a good offer with some ties being played that are hard to call. It provides great football betting coverage for the Champions League, and Unibet come highly recommended, for the wealth of excellent services which they deliver. New customers signing up with them are also in line to earn a free £20 bet to use on their vast sports book.

This is a wide open group with a lot at stake, as three of the teams, including these two are sat on three points. With Bayern Munich dominating proceedings, there is a genuine three way scrap for the second qualifying spot. This match should determine a lot come the end of Match Day Four. The Swiss side caused something of a shock as Claudio Ranieri’s Roma completely imploded on Match Day Three at home, and lost heavily by a 3-1 score line. What made this so surprising is that Roma were actually supposed to be a really strong force this year, but they certainly have not lived up to expectations. Now they have dug themselves into something of a hole. Not only do they now need results starting with an away match in Basel, they will know that on the horizon on Match Day six, awaits another encounter with Bayern Munich. That means Roma needs to grab every opportunity here. Basel haven’t really done anything spectacular in the Champions League yet, apart from take their chances courtesy of a very poor Roma display. They will be confident in their own back yard, when they gave Bayern a good run for their money. A draw seems a reasonable bet.
Others: Roma 17/10 at William Hill, Basel 7/4 at BetFred
Last year’s losing finalists Bayern Munich, are back on track for a strong campaign, and they have come out of the starting blocks blazing away. They have picked up three wins from three and will be fully expected to make it four out of four and seal top spot in the group with an away win at Cluj. The Belgians actually took the lead in Germany, but they shot themselves in the foot a bit when they scored two own goals, condemning them to a 3-2 defeat. Louis Van Gaal’s side rode their luck there a bit, and surprisingly feel behind, as Bayern have a great home record in the Champions League. A late consolation by Cluj when things were pretty much done and dusted made the score line a bit closer than it really was, as Bayern did have almost 70% of possession. Bayern are a class act, packed full of stars. Cluj’s three points came against Basel which is not too much to read into, and Bayern should seal their fate as group winners here.

Carlo Ancelotti will look to book top spot as winners by achieving back to back wins against Spartak Moscow. There shouldn’t be any surprises at Stamford Bridge, see full match preview here.
Not sure what the outcome of this will be. At the start of the group you would have penciled this in as an easy three points for the French side. However Didier Deschamps has seen his side stutter and falter all the way through the group stage of the Champions League. They got themselves off to a terrible start with a loss at home to Spartak, were beaten at Stamford Bridge, and then only managed a 1-0 win against rank outsiders Zilina. The strange this is, is that they are going strongly in the domestic French league, and were expected to qualify along with Chelsea from this group. However, at the halfway stage, they are trailing second placed Spartak Moscow by three points. The problems have clearly been up front, where they have only managed one goal in their three matches. They need a stronger and more convincing away performance against Zilina, because a win for them, and an expected loss for Spartak against Chelsea, would bring Marseille level on points with the Russians. It will be all to play for then. Even though Chelsea are dominant here, the race for second place is quite exciting. Marseille will be favorites in the betting, but there is a sniff of an upset here, even though Zilina haven’t got a point on the board yet. However, you have to back the French side to scrape something together out of this.

This has been a cracking, entertaining group. Not as full of goals as one may have first thought, but there is some interesting scenarios to be played out here. Ajax have a huge change to take a firm grip of second place on Wednesday night, as they take on French side Auxerre who have yet to pick up a win. Auxerre, a mid table team in their domestic league, have only hit one goal, but they haven’t been rolled over comprehensively yet. They were only beaten 1-0 at home by Real Madrid, and Ajax only squeezed past them in the Netherlands with a 2-1 victory. Ajax will edge the betting in this one, but there is hope for the French side. Auxerre did play OK in their only other home fixture against Real Madrid, and this really looks as if it will be their best and only chance to realistically pick up three points in the group. Ajax have lost only once in their domestic league, and have slowly gained some momentum in the Champions League. Being defeated by Real Madrid first up, they then held AC Milan to a draw, and then beat Auxerre. They are the stronger of the two sides, and therefore have to be favored in the betting. Auxerre look to be a stubborn side though and could well hold on for a draw here, keeping the group wide open.
Others: Auxerre 13/8 at Paddy Power, Ajax 9/5 at Ladbrokes
The Jose Mourinho revolution at Real Madrid is fully underway. They are leading the way, undefeated at the top of La Liga, and have picked up three wins from three in their Champions League group matches. This looked to be something of a tricky group, but Madrid have prevailed quite comfortably. They have gotten the job done without conceding a goal. When the two sides met on Match Day Three, Real Madrid won 2-0, and they will be favourites go into the match back at the San Siro. AC Milan are a better side than what they were last year, having picked up Brazilian star Robinho from Manchester City, plus Zlatan Ibrahimovic in order to bolster their forward capability alongside Pato. They are doing OK up front, but their defence is not as tight as you would expect a top Italian side’s to be. It is simply not tight enough, and that of course will spell problems against the attacking might of Real Madrid. The Spanish side are bombing along with Cristiano Ronaldo simply on fire. He has hit eleven goals, and in their last four league matches, Real have scored an incredible 19 goals. That’s some serious firepower. Ronaldo, Higuain, Di Maria, Ozil, Benzema, the list of quality names goes on. Real Madrid really are going to take some stopping this year, both on the domestic front and in the Champions League. Can AC Milan muster up enough attack to really challenge Real Madrid? How will they keep Madrid quiet? It looks as if Milan will need something out of this game with Ajax breathing down their neck. Real Madrid have historically, done pretty badly at the San Siro. In thirteen matches, Real Madrid have lost ten and drawn three against Inter and AC Milan in Italy. The two sides met on November 3rd last year in the group stage, and the match played out to a 1-1 draw. However, this is now Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid, and while the likes of Ibrahimovic are gunning for revenge at the Match Day Three defeat, Mourinho will make a big difference. Mourinho coached Inter Milan for two years at the San Siro, and is no stranger to the place. Madrid to win again, they are just looking a major powerhouse going forwards.

Arsene Wenger leaves Cesc Fabregas behind, as the club captain is nursing a mild hamstring problem. The Gunners demolished Shakhtar at the Emirates a fortnight ago by a 5-1 score line. Expect a tighter match, as Arsenal look to break their duck in the Ukraine having never won there. See our full match preview here.
These two sides were not given much of a chance from the off when the Champions League draw was made. Braga however, could find themselves level in second place come the end of Match Day Four. This is because if Arsenal beat Shakhtar as expected, and then Braga pull of a good away win in Belgrade, then they will draw level with Ukrainian side Shakhtar on six points. Braga are making their debut in the competition and are a bit of unknown quantity. They are going steadily along in the top six of the Portuguese league, but it was Belgrade who were penciled in as potential dark horses. If they are going to do anything it has to be now. Home advantage against another inexperienced Champions League side. They will also be out for revenge after Braga comfortably won 2-0 against Partizan on Match Day Three. Partizan did have the lions share of possession though, but things look as if they will even out to a draw.

The Germans are still having a pretty miserable domestic season sitting in the bottom half of the table, but there is a big chance here to get themselves into a position to make a serious move into the knockout stage. If Tottenham fail to pick up a point against Inter Milan, then a first win in the group for Werder would jump them into second place with two games left. They hold the same match record this year at FC Twente, so there isn’t much to chose between them. They played out a less than exciting 1-1 draw in the Netherlands on Match day three, but the Germans have home advantage which they really need to press home. Would expect another draw here really, as Twente are a very strong side, at least on the domestic front where they haven’t lost a game all season. But, throwing all of that out of the window, FC Twente actually look a great tip for Tuesday. This is largely going against the grain of things, but they are potent side if they can put it all together, and the Germans are certainly there for the taking.

Well, the Germans Schalke are having a miserable season in the Bundesliga, sitting second from bottom and only one win in their ten matches this season. However, they have picked things up a little bit in the Champions League with two wins, which has put them in a strong position. They have taken full advantage of playing at home in the Champions League and ran out 3-1 winners over Hapoel when they met on Match Day three. They should have enough quality to make a repeat performance, and they do have Klaas Jan Huntelaar who is on fire, and probably won’t be at the club for too long if he keeps playing like he does, and the club itself plays the way it does for much longer. Having pulled out a strong enough win over Hapoel in the first meeting, seems more than reasonable that they’ll do it again.

Benfica v Lyon Betting Tip: Away win 13/5 at Bet365
After having gotten their Champions League campaign off to a winning start against Hapoel, Benfica have lost their last two matches 2-0. Now it is the turnaround point for them, and while they need a win, it is going to be a tough ask against a polished Lyon side. The French team have won three out of three so far in the campaign, and another three will guarantee them a place in the next round. Lyon have hit six goals and conceded just one and that shows how accomplished they are in the Champions League. There are some strong chances of some good away wins in the Champions League this week, and that usually affords you some little extra odds. Adversely in the French League, Lyon are having something of a stuttering season, having lost as many as they have won. They are a good European side though, and you would expect them to come through this one unscathed.

This is actually a more enticing prospect than many may have though it would have been at this stage of proceedings. All credit where it is due, Rangers are proving to be a tough, stubborn side in the Champions League this year, and haven’t rolled over in the face of sterner and higher quality opposition. They earned a great 0-0 draw at Old Trafford, and held Valencia to a 1-1 draw at Ibrox on match day three. Sandwiched in between that was a win over Bursaspor, and that is why they find themselves in a decent position. Even a draw would really keep their qualification hopes alive, and it would a great effort from them again against the strong Spaniards who are fourth in La Liga. Valencia have hit a bit of a sticky path though in terms of form, with no win in their last three domestic games, and the draw at Rangers has put a bit of a dampener on them. You would expect the Spaniards to step up a level on their home turf, and there ends the run of away win Champions League tips. Having only scored two goals in three matches, Rangers don’t look as if they will have the firepower to match Valencia, if the Spaniards really get their game going.

FC Copenhagen v Barcelona Betting Tip: Away win 4/9 at Totesport
Everything was looking quite rosy for Copenhagen after two match days. There they were sitting at the top of Group D, and then came the visit to the Nou Camp. Barcelona beat Copenhagen 2-0 to wrestle their way to the top of the group, and now the Danish side could find themselves even further behind Tuesday’s opponent, if they don’t pick up at least a draw against the Spanish giants. Even if Copenhagen lose they will still be in second place, simply because Rubin or Panathinaikos haven’t managed a win between them. So, another defeat wouldn’t be a disaster for the Danes, but it would put them under pressure. This group is actually wide open and is no done deal. The Danes have looked a hard working and compact unit, but you will expect the high scoring Catalan side to come out on tops. That having been said, Barcelona could only manage an away draw against Rubin, and Copenhagen are top of the Danish league by a country mile (they have a 14 point lead after just 14 games, having won 12, drawn 2 and lost 0!). So is a draw on the cards? No. Barcelona will win.

Rubin Kazan v Panathinaikos Betting Tip: Draw 29/10 at Unibet
As predicted, the two sides ran out to 0-0 draw when they met in Greece on match day three. Rubin was supposed to be putting pressure on Barcelona at the top of the league by this stage, but the Russian champions haven’t even posted a win yet. Clearly having only hit one goal in their three matches so far, there are issues up front, and with the Greeks only managing the same amount from their attack, another draw seems more than likely. Panathinaikos have failed to score in their two home matches so far, and getting away goals in the Champions League is no easy task. If you are looking for an edge in this one, then the Russian will have it with home advantage. The Russians really need to play catch up to Copenhagen, and a win would do just that.
