Coca Cola Championship Injuries/Suspensions Team News – 18-19 September 2009
 
Sheffield Utd v Sheffield Wednesday
Blades defender Matthew Kilgallon(1gl) is a major doubt ahead of the Steel City derby with a chest infection.
Full-back Andy Taylor(1asst) is also doubtful with a back injury, so Jordan Stewart is set to continue in his place.
Wednesday have doubts over central defenders Richard Woods(2gls) and Mark Beevers. Woods suffering from a groin injury, so if both are unfit, skipper Darren Purse and Richard Hinds will continue at the back.
Transfer-listed striker Francis Jeffers is available, but will be lucky to make the bench as Marcus Tudgay(4gls,3assts) & loanee Luke Varney(1gl) have struck a good partnership up front.
Akpo Sodje and Leon Clarke are also pushing for recalls following injuries.
 
 
Barnsley v Swansea
Barnsley may hand a debut to winger Julian Gray after he agreed a short-term contract having left Fulham at the end of last season.
Defender Bobby Hassell will be rested and midfielder Emil Hallfredsson(2assts) is also out. Striker Kayode Odejayi(1asst) has been loaned out to Colchester.
Winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Daniel Bogdanovic will also be missing.
Swans midfielder’s Ferrie Bodde and Joe Allen will need to pass fitness tests but both should be okay.
Meanwhile, Jason Pratley continues to be sidelined after a shoulder operation.
However, the Swans welcome back suspended duo Angel Rangel and skipper Gary Monk, but Stephen Dobbie has a hip injury.

Bristol City v Scunthorpe Utd
The Robins have a somewhat depleted squad available following an illness spreading through the squad and injuries.
Louis Carey and regular keeper Dean Gerken are both ruled out also. Danny Haynes(2assts) is one of the first team that are suffering from a bug.
However, leading scorer striker Nicky Maynard(5gls) should be available for the visit of Scunthorpe.
Scunthorpe will probably be without winger Garry Thompson and Ben May. Andrew Wright is also doubtful.
 
Cardiff City v QPR
Cardiff have been dealt a blow with loan signing Kelvin Etuhu expected to be out for up to 8 weeks. He’ll join last season’s top scorer Ross McCormack and defender Kevin McNaughton on the sidelines.
Important midfielder Joe Ledley(1asst) is also doubtful with a calf strain and will face a late fitness test. Full-back Adam Matthews has definitely been ruled out though.
QPR defender Fitz Hall has been ruled out, along with winger Lee Cook,Gareth Ainsworth and Angelo Balanta.
Striker Heidar Helguson(1gl) has returned to former side Watford on loan.

Eagles defender Matt Lawrence has been placed on the transfer list, a strange decision considering the club’s league position right now.
Derby are set to be without midfielder Paul Green(1gl) and defender Jake Buxton(1gl,1asst) as both have suffered recent injuries.
 
 
Doncaster Rovers v Ipswich Town
Doncaster hand late fitness tests to midfielder James Coppinger and striker Paul Heffernan who have suffered with injuries.
Striker James Hayter(2gls) is definitely out, but defender James O`Connor should make a welcome return.
Ipswich will be without David Norris and winger Luciano Civelli as they bid to earn their first win of the season at the Keepmoat.
Defender Gareth McAuley is suspended and Liam Rosenior is doubtful. Winger Carlos Edwards is suffering from a hamstring strain.

 
Middlesbrough v West Brom
The game of the Championship this weekend.
Middlesbrough have signed Preston centre-back Sean St Ledger from Preston on a 3 month deal and should start against fellow high-flyers West Brom. Fellow loanee Caleb Folan (from Hull City) should also be in the squad.
Didier Digard is pushing for a recall, but Andrew Taylor,Chris Riggott and Matthew Bates are long-term absentees.
The Baggies will be missing Marek Cech(2gls) with a twisted ankle.
Striker Luke Moore(2gls) will face a very late fitness test, while James Morrison, Neil Clement and Ishmael Miller remain sidelined.

 
Newcastle Utd  v Plymouth Argyle
Newcastle will add new loan signing Ruban Khizanishvili (from Blackburn) to their squad when they face rock-bottom Plymouth Argyle.
Plymouth have signed Villa defender Shane Lowry on a 3 month loan to boost a defence that’s missing Rede Johnson and transfer-listed Marcel Seip.

 
Nottingham Forest v Blackpool
Forest will be without striker Joe Garner after he collected his 5th yellow card away to Ipswich midweek.
Rob Earnshaw(1gl) has been told he has a future at the club depsite rumours linking him with a move away from the City Ground. He may get a starting place after equalising off the bench v Ipswich.
Julian Bennett,Radoslaw Majewski(1gl) and James Perch are all doubtful.
Blackpool may have to do without striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher(2gls,1asst).
Fellow striker Daniel Nardiello and defender Danny Coid are both out, and Ben Burgess faces a late fitness test.

Peterborough winger Chris Whelpdale is a slight concern as he needed stitches in last match against Leicester City.
Meanwhile, midfielder Sergio Torres has joined League Two outfit Lincoln City on a month’s loan.
Striker Shaun Batt(1gl,2assts) is pushing for a starting place after scoring 2 and 1 assist in the reserves midweek against local rivals Norwich.
Reading will travel to London Road without defender Chris Armstrong and striker Radoslav Vasilev who are still recovering from injury.
However, Ivar Ingimarsson is close to a return and may be included in the squad.

 
Preston NE v Coventry
Preston are without left-back Callum Davidson(1gl) and Paul Parry(1gl), along with long-term absentee Barry Nicholson.
However, Youl Mawene should be fully fit.
Coventry should be unchanged.
Coventry winger David Bell will again miss out as he still recovers from an ankle injury.

Watford v Leicester City
Watford hope to welcome back skipper Jay DeMerit to the squad that faces Leicester City.
However, midfielder Scott Severin is rated doubtful with a groin injury.
Leicester defender Aleksander Tunchev is in line for a starting place after coming through midweek against Peterborough Utd.

Derby County v Sheffield Utd
New loan signing Lee Hendrie could make his Rams debut against former side Sheffield United with a point to prove.
However, Chris Porter,Giles Barnes and Steve Davies(1asst) are all still carrying injuries and won’t figure. The international break though has given Shaun Barker & Dean Leacock a chance to recover and may be selected in the squad.
Sheff Utd will be without keeper Paddy Kenny who is bannned for 9 months following a drugs incident.
Blades midfielder Glenn Little is in line to figure for the first time in the league following a knee strain.

Coventry v Bristol City
Sky Blues will be without defender Patrick van Aanholt, but Marcus Hall and Jordan Clarke are both available again.
Bristol City will be without midfielder John Akinde,while Lewin Nyatanga and David Clarkson(1gl) are both doubtful, as is Bradley Orr.
Paul Hartley(1gl,1asst) should be fit.
New signings Evander Sno & Alvaro Soborio will both travel to the Ricoh Arena.

Crystal Palace v Scunthorpe
Palace are set to name new signing defender Claude Davis in the squad when they host fellow strugglers Scunthorpe Utd.
Palace will be without suspended Paddy McCarthy(1asst), and strikers Stern John & Calvin Andrew are both injured.
Freddie Sears and Alan Lee(2gls,1asst) continue up front.
Scunthorpe keeper Josh Lillis has joined Grimsby Town on a month’s loan.

Blackpool will be without midfielder Gary Taylor-Fletcher(2gls,1asst) for the next few weeks. Striker Ishmel Demontagnac is also likely to be out injured (hamstring).

Middlesbrough v Ipswich Town
Boro midfielder Gary O’Neil(2assts) is hoping to be fit for the visit of Ipswich. Keeper Brad Jones is also hoping to return to the team, but Chris Riggott,Emmanuel Pogatetz,Didier Digard and Matthew Bates all remain sidelined.
Meanwhile, the revolving doors of The Riverside keep spinning as striker Afonso Alves is the most recent player to leave Boro since relegation from the Premiership.

Preston NE v Swansea City

Reading v Doncaster Rovers
Reading could include new signing right-back Shaun Cummings(from Chelsea), as incumbent right-back Liam Rosenior has joined Ipswich on a season loan.
Midfielder James Harper has joined Sheffield Utd on a season long loan, with striker Brian Howard joining Reading. Darren O’Dea is also in line for his debut for The Royals.
Jobi McAnuff,Ivar Ingimarsson and Chris Armstrong are all sidelined.
Too much quality has left the Madejski Stadium though and it’s hard to see Reading making a return to the Premiership anytime soon.

Rovers have also extended defender Jason Shackell loan from Wolves until 1 January.

Nottm Forest v Derby County
Forest will be missing a number of players ahead of their East Midlands clash against Derby County; Lewis McGugan(fractured cheekbone),Guy Moussi and defenders James Perch,Julian Bennett, & Kelvin Wilson(ankle). Joel Lynch is doubtful.
Derby will be missing striker Chris Porter(hip) until late December and fellow forward Steve Davies(leg),although the extent of the injury isn’t too bad. Luke Varney has also left on loan. Giles Barnes is also sidelined  along with Paul Green. New signing Paul Dickov is expected to make his debut.

Argyle have loaned out left-back Damien McCrory back to Port Vale for a month.

Watford are without striker Tommy Smith who has transferred to Portsmouth. Defender Matt Williamson has handed in a transfer request. Striker Danny Graham faces a late fitness test and Nathan Ellington is still struggling.
With many players unavailable for Swansea and Watford losing Tommy Smith, it’s hard to see where the goals are going to come from in this one.
