WTA Tennis Betting Tips favour Williams and Dementieva

February 22nd, 2010 / Lee A Jackson

Tennis sports betting markets will be in hot action again this week. Women’s tennis is still in full swing, with two WTA tournaments taking place. Firstly Australian Open winner Venus Williams should enjoy another title, as she is participating in the Mexican Open. Unless you are an avid follower of the women’s game, there is barely another recognisable name in the tournament. The second, third and fourth seeds in the tournament are Agnes Szavay, Gisela Dulko and Sorana Cirstea. The highest world ranking out of those, is, naturally Szavay who 32nd in the world, compared to Williams, who is fifth. We just saw Maria Sharapova cruise to a victory in Memphis, and she was, like Williams in this one, was head and shoulders above the rest of the competition taking part. Although the price on Williams won’t be great because of this fact, at least it’ll be a relatively safe banker.

WTA Abierto Mexicano Telcel Outrights: Best to head on over to betting exchange BetFair for this one. Again, this is one of those small tournaments, which does not get a lot of coverage across online bookmakers. Fortunately, this is the bonus of a betting exchange like BetFair, for as long as someone is willing to lay odds on a bet, then you can have a punt. This is betting against other punters, and BetFair is a great place to do this. Plus you get can get a £25 free bet when you sign up for a new account.

It’s hard to see Williams not winning that one and it will be fairly reflected in the prices at the bookmakers if you can pick it up. The Malaysian Open, which has the same prize money amount of $200,000 as the Mexican Open, has a little stiffer competition in it, but from a betting point of view, it shouldn’t be too hard to pick a winner. Russia’s Elena Dementieva, who has won in Sydney and Paris already this year, is looking to continue her fine form at this inaugural Malaysian Open. She starts as top seed, and the World Number 7 shouldn’t have any difficulties getting to the semi finals. Her most likely opponent there will be China’s Jie Zheng. Zheng, who made it the semi finals of the Australian Open, along with fellow countrywoman, Na Li, who is also participating in the Malaysian Open. Li and Zheng are seeded second and third respectively.

One sort of wildcard bet, would be Russian Alisa Kleybanova. She’s ranked down in the thirties in the world, but she is incredibly powerful. Cruised through her first round match, and should have safe passage to the Quarters from where anything can happen. Disappointed a bit when it’s come to the WTA this year, but had a good run in the Grand Slam. A nice price for an outside bet, so check below. But all said and done, if either of them come up against Dementieva in her top form, the senior Russian should win out, but the Chinese duo pose a threat. Therefore, Williams and Dementieva would make a great double in Women’s tennis this week as outrights. If you want to add to the action, then check out Bet365 for the Live In-Play betting and reap the benefits of up to £200 Free in welcome bonus.
