Newcastle v Liverpool Betting – Spread the Jerm-s

December 28th, 2008 / paddy power

When Real Madrid offered £3.5 million for Liverpool’s Jermaine Pennant, we’ve no doubt Rafa Benitez’s reaction went something like, “I begrudgingly accept that offer, sure, I’ll even throw in Lucas Leiva.” The right winger has fallen out of favour with the Spanish boss and a transfer to Real was seemingly his ticket out of Anfield, however the deal fell through when they heard about his criminal record and his fondness for a certain Mr Jack Daniels the former Birmingham player demanded almost 60k a week. Given that he’s been getting half that for warming his posterior on the Pool bench, he probably feels he’s worth it if he’s going to start playing football. After their easy win over Bolton, you’ll be paying the Penn-alty if don’t back the Reds to beat Newcastle ! Sun 12pm SS1

PDC World Championships – Earning His Spurs

December 27th, 2008 / paddy power

“You could say I’m like Tottenham. I’m capable of beating anyone when I’m on my top form but I have these lapses now and again which make me a little inconsistent – just like Tottenham,” Wayne Mardle analogised, before possibly comparing his pint to Juande Ramos and his wife to Daniel Levy. Hawaii 501 dumped 13-time World Champion Phil Taylor out of last year’s PDC World Championship and the Londoner knows it was a missed opportunity. Having beaten the best player in the world, Mardle then lost to complete unknown Kirk Shepherd in the semi-final. “I should have won my first world title,” he sniffed, forgetting to apologise for the outlandish shirt he was wearing. Will Wayne be Spur-ed on to beat Robert Thornton in the second round? Darts Betting (SS2)

PDC World Championship – Make A Meal Of It

December 27th, 2008 / paddy power

James Wade wasn’t at his best in the first round but he was just glad to get through. “Christmas dinner will taste far better after a win.” Not to mention the pud, trifle, selection box, After Eights, Quality Street…..To be fair they’re darts players not marathon runners, will Wade show the hunger to go all the way in this festive feast of darts? NFL Betting Week 17 – Cool Your Jets

December 27th, 2008 / paddy power

Bill Belichick won’t be looking past the Buffalo Bills , as the Patriots’ post-season push goes right down to the wire, but as soon as he has the win he’s going to have to do something that will leave him in need of the kind of shower usually reserved for incoming inmates. Belichick’s distaste for the New York Jets runs deep but if his side beat the Bills then a Jets win over the Dolphins will hand New England the AFC East division title. Belichick isn’t the cheeriest of chaps at the best of times but he’ll have to suck it up and will the Jets to victory if he wants to keep a season going, which at one point looked like collapsing completely. The Pats have done well to overcome the loss of Brady and get themselves to the brink of the playoffs but first up it’s Buffalo for Bill.

Blackburn v Man City Betting – Sorry, No dyce!

December 27th, 2008 / paddy power

Big Sam and his army of physios, nutritionists, ankle masseuses, calf masseuses and sports psychologists were unable to continue Blackburn’s winning streak (of one game) after only managing a draw at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland on Boxing Day. “We’re disappointed to say the least, unfortunately there was a bobble on it,” Allardyce revealed Jason Robert’s reason for putting the ball two foot wide from about ten feet out of an open goal. “I was up and dancing. A bobble has cost us a fantastic win,” the former Newcastle chief said, trying to convince himself Roberts was telling the truth. Consolation came in the shape of Paul Robinson who kept a second clean sheet in a row. Will it be more of the Sam-e against free scoring Man City at Ewood Park? Sun 4.15pm SS1

Ranger v Celtic – Old Boys On Old Firm

December 27th, 2008 / paddy power

Former Celtic star Stilian Petrov was this week wistfully reflecting on his time in Glasgow, ahead of the latest edition of the Old Firm derby; “It’s incredible because every fan and every player is waiting for this game.” It seems the Aston Villa – Birmingham derby last season didn’t stir up quite the same excitement and West Brom aren’t exactly the most glamorous of rivals this season. Petrov even offered up a betting tip; “I’ll go for 1-0 to Celtic, it’ll be a tough game.” Not to leave Rangers unrepresented at Villa Park, Carlos Cuellar gave a tip of his own and even named the goalscorers; “Rangers [to win] 3-1. Nacho Novo, Kenny Miller and Kris Boyd [to score].” This game won’t decide anything but with the league finely poised both sides Vill’ be desperate to win. Sat 12.15pm Set

Premier League Betting – In Safe Hands!

December 26th, 2008 / paddy power

A last minute goal from Duff sealed an unlikely win for Newcastle over Spurs but at least Huerelho Gomes wasn’t at fault. In contrast to his Taibi-esque impersonations earlier in the season, the goalkeeper has improved. Proving two weeks is a long time in football, boss Harry Redknapp revealed after his magnificent display against United that he didn’t have much confidence in the player. “We went to Holland a couple of weeks ago and I met the goalkeeping coach at PSV. He said ‘Don’t worry about the goalkeeper, he is world class’. I’ve got to be honest, I wasn’t sure if he had been drinking. I just smiled politely and said ‘I’m sure he is’.” ‘Arry wasn’t sure how they lost against the Magpies, but will they deliver a knock out blow against Fulham on Boxing Day? Premier League Matches

King George Betting – He’s His Own Mann

December 26th, 2008 / paddy power

There are plenty of easier tasks than stopping a Gold Cup winner from completing a hat-trick of wins in the King George VI Chase at Kempton, but for some reason trainer Charlie Mann has opted to take on Kauto Star with his charge, Air Force One . "The King George should suit our horse," said Mann, choosing to beat around the bush for a few moments before getting to his real reason "and there are lots of question marks against the opposition." That could describe several of the market leaders for the race, but in particular, it looks to be a thinly veiled attack on Kauto who’ll have a lot of questions to answer after a fall in the Betfair Chase. Air Force One reached a career best finishing second in the Hennessy, but is it a flight of fancy to suggest he can win the King George ?
