Cheryl Cole Odds – Locking For Love

April 30th, 2010 / paddy power

There are mixed reports coming from the car crash that is the break-up between Cheryl Cole and Ashley. One source claims she has changed all the locks on their home so he can’t bring back any tail when she’s off murdering songs in the recording studio whilst the other says she’s prepared to give her husband another chance at keeping it in his pants. In the course of trying to flog her album to the good people of Norway, she told a national TV station she’s not giving up on the marriage just yet. “No matter what the love is, you’ve got to fight for it,” she said, seemingly quoting her own god-awful song, “You can’t give up and lie down.” Without wanting to be overly pessimistic, Cheryl’s best chances of romance may lie elsewhere. Boxing Odds: Prizefighter – You Herb It Here First

April 30th, 2010 / paddy power

We could write a couple of homepages worth of stuff telling you exactly what Herbie Hide has been up to since his heyday during the nineties, but the short version is: brawl, police, no money, police, another brawl, more police, motoring ‘difficulties’, even more police, no money, police, still no money, Prizefighter . The former heavyweight champion of the world is now operating at cruiserweight and he thinks success in Sky’s competition will be the springboard to the top of the division. “I believe I’m the best cruiserweight in the world,” he declared – a claim that most boxing organisations disagree with by in the region of twenty to thirty places. He may have fallen from grace, but he’s still expected to give Wayne Brooks a good Hide-ing. Fri. 9.15pm SS2 – Prizefigher Bouts

Connacht v Toulon – Up To This Challenge?

April 30th, 2010 / paddy power

After the Scarlets and Ulster combined to all but slam the door of Heineken Cup qualification via the Magners League shut in Connacht’s face, their attention is now focused on making it to the big show by winning the Amlin Challenge Cup. It’ll be no easy task though with a star-packed Toulon landing in Galway this Friday for their semi-final clash. Big names such as Jonny Wilkinson, Tana Umaga and Joe van Niekerk have all been included, though there’ll be no return to Ireland for Felipe Contepomi. “They have to come to Galway and we have the X-factor in terms of our ground…while they will bring the stars, we’ll bring our support and we’ll see who comes out on top,” challenged Connacht coach Michael Bradley. Can Connacht X-cel in Galway or will the visitors have Tou much? Fri 7.45pm SS3

ICC World Cup Betting – Here Today, Ghan Tomorrow

April 30th, 2010 / paddy power

Ireland are going to the World Cup and France aren’t. It’s not something they should really shout, it’s the cricket World Cup and Afghanistan are probably considered a better side than them in the West Indies. South Africa captain Graeme Smith actually fears the possibly CIA-funded side too. Despite being rank outsiders, the Proteas player says they could pose a serious threat – obviously not in a ‘they’re not Armour hot dogs around his waist’ kind of way. “Afghanistan are a potential banana skin because they are unknown,” he began, adding, “I read their opener (Karim Sadiq) said he was not scared of facing Dale Steyn and I wouldn’t be either if I grew up in a war zone.” Smith is definitely shooting from the hip and we reckon they’ll be pushing for the main honours! Starts Fri 5.30pm SS1

Fulham v Hamburg – A Frontal Labb-otomy

April 29th, 2010 / paddy power

Three wins in their last fourteen Bundesliga games put pay to Hamburg’s chances of qualifying for European competition through their league position. After being held to a scoreless draw at home in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final against Fulham and then getting spanked 5-1 by Hoffenheim on Sunday, the Hamburg board decided they weren’t prepared to leave their chances of making the final in the hands of Bruno Labbadia. So they sacked him just days before their visit to Craven Cottage. Of late the Hamburg team has been playing as though they’ve had frontal lobotomies: slow up in though and action, and a lack of interest or drive. His assistant Ricardo Moniz will now take the reins but will it prove a smart move? Thurs 8.05pm ITV4/Setanta Irl.

Liverpool v Atletico Madrid – Gerr’ Just Words

April 29th, 2010 / paddy power

Nearing the end of a season in which Liverpool have put in more poor performances than a Limp Bizkit World tour, Steven Gerrard is promising that he and the players will be going for broke in their Europa League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid. “We’ll pile everything into Thursday’s game, which can’t come quickly enough. The players are up for it and will leave every bit of sweat and blood on the pitch.” The Reds captain, by his own admission, has had a poor season and his two goals against Burnley masked yet another listless outing. With a 4th place finish needing an unlikely combination of results to go their way, this is Liverpool’s best chance to salvage something from this season. Can they raise their game or will this be another bloody disappointment? Thurs 8.05pm Five

Quail Hollow – Riding High

April 29th, 2010 / paddy power

After some sacharine PR and fading public interest in the whole affair, Tiger was treated with kitten gloves on his return at the US Masters. Despite not winning, the World number one didn’t look as though his game had been greatly affected by spending three months in a health spa playing golf sex addiction clinic. “As far as competing, it was just like riding a bike again,” said Woods on his blog this week. Speaking of riding bikes… “Once the tournament came, everything felt normal, and I fell into my old rhythm and routine. I didn’t even think about it; it just happened. My body knew what to do.” Luckily for the sake of his remaining sponsors, he managed to fight the urges and not sleep with his waitress. Woods is back in action at Quail Hollow this week. Speaking of hollow…

Open de Espana – Monte Cristo For Jim’

April 29th, 2010 / paddy power

It’ll be all sunshine and cigars at the Open de Espána this week. The Miguel Angel Jimenez organised event will provide a welcome change from the challenging conditions the tournaments in China and South Korea provided over the past few weeks, though with Jimenez and Darren Clarke taking part there may be some visibility problems for their playing partners. The Mechanic has won on home soil on four occassions but with the last of them coming back in 2003 he’ll be targeting this event for his fifth. Jimenez has won already this season, beating the in-form Lee Westwood in a play-off for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Will Jimenez be able to smoke the competition in the Open de Espána ?
