Champions League Odds – I’m Not One To Ar-gue

April 27th, 2010 / paddy power

‘How dare you take me off after I so expertly directed what was going to be a fairly tame shot off the back of my team-mate’s head into the net’ was the gist of what Arjen Robben was thinking after he got the hook a mere five minutes from the end of Bayern Munich’s Champions League semi-final 1st leg against Lyon . Being Dutch, he felt a tantrum was in order, but shortly after the toys left the general vicinity of the pram, Robben realised an apology was needed. “I have got to apologise to all of the fans. I should have been more professional, but this is just part of my mentality — I am an arse always want to win,” he explained as if he’s an uncommonly complex man. With Ribery out, will Bayern be sorry they didn’t make more of home advantage? Tue. 7.45m SS1 & TV3

Football Betting – Lights, Camera, Satisfaction

April 26th, 2010 / paddy power

With their disgusting habit of arranging kick-off times so they can broadcast matches at a time that suits people in return for giving clubs money and an increased profile, television companies often get a bad rep, but Paul Hart is delighted that Sky have intervened to move Crystal Palace’s game against West Brom to a Monday. With their relegation rivals having played over the weekend, he says the Eagles are at an advantage because they know what they need to do. As they#re in a relegation dogfight, we’d have thought ‘win’ and ‘draw’ would have been plan A and plan B, but Hart sees it as a help. “Playing Monday gives us a heads up so we will know what we need to do,” he explained. If they can beat their Premier League-bound opponents, they’ll have safety in the Baggie. Mon. 8pm SS1

Chelsea v Stoke Odds – Oldest Flick In The Book

April 25th, 2010 / paddy power

Earlier this week, Carlo Ancelotti told us he wouldn’t be watching Spurs’ visit to Old Trafford as he had plans. That’s good for him as it spared him the irritation of seeing a team that fought for everything against Arsenal and then Chelsea roll over and have their bellies tickled in a toothless performance. The Pensioners’ boss revealed he was planning a trip to the cinema to watch Clash Of The Titans again and in the process probably double the film’s box-office takings. “I have seen it once, but I didn’t understand it very well. I want to watch it again,” he explained – which if taking the Chelsea job wasn’t enough of a clue, conclusively proves he’s a glutton for punishment. Will the Blues be scene back on top of the table after the game with Stoke ? 4pm SS1 – Premier League Matches

GAA Betting – Always There, Come What Mayo

April 25th, 2010 / paddy power

For Mayo fans, the prospect of a trip up to Croke Park must elicit feelings similar to those we’d imagine felt by cows when the truck from the abattoir rolls into the farmyard. For the majority of the last 60 odd years, trips to the capital haven’t yielded much in the way of silverware, but team captain, Trevor Mortimer has praised the way the Yew County fans continually get behind their team despite the fact they get precious little reward. “The supporters always turn out in great numbers. They are wonderful that way,” he praised, before somewhat taking away from it by basically calling them fickle. It may not mean a whole lot in turns of the Championship, but beating Cork in the NFL Division 1 Final wouldn’t hurt the moo-d in the county. Sun. 4pm TG4 – Down v Armagh (2pm)

Cricket Betting: IPL Final – In The Anils Of History

April 25th, 2010 / paddy power

The third edition of the IPL will officially come to a close whenever the final between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings finishes, but the end of tournament awards ceremony was a great chance to salute the standout performers in this year’s event – and also make sure the paycheques clearing. It wasn’t a surprise to see Mumbai captain, Sachin Tendulkar land the gongs for Best Batsman and Best Captain, but there were some surprise in other categories – namely the categories themselves. Best Breakthrough Performance would suggest to us an award for a rising star and that went to a young whippersnapper by the name of Anil Kumble – aged 39. With home advantage and their in-form superstar, you’d Tend to think the Indians will go all the way. 3.30pm ITV4, Set. Irl & YouTube

Aston Villa v Birmingham Odds – It Has The Re-Verse Effect

April 25th, 2010 / paddy power

We’d have thought it would take a lyricist with the skill and craft of Burt Bacharach or N-Dubz to neatly squeeze the name of Gabriel Agbonlahor into a little ditty, but most football fans are more concerned with insulting an opponent rather than rhythm and meter and his name does lend itself to one rather crude rhyme. The Birmingham fans aren’t immune from using it, but Aston Villa manager, Martin O’Neill pointed out the chanting hasn’t had a detrimental effect on his player’s performances. “He’s been brilliant in the games and it doesn’t seem to have affected him if his goalscoring is anything to go by”. He’s got 3 goals in his last 3 Second City Derbies and at 9/2 for Agbonlahor to be 1st goalscorer , it’s well worth backing him to be on song once again. Sun. 12pm SS1

London Marathon Odds – Taking The Miki

April 25th, 2010 / paddy power

Last year it was Irina Mikitenko who beat all the other female loons to come out on top after the 26 and a bit miles of the London Marathon , but the good news for all the loons looking for victory this time around is that she hasn’t had the training she wanted. Normally she likes to run through the forests in her native Germany – like a fitness obsessed Gretel – but due to lots of snow, she’s been forced to train indoors. That’s incredibly boring she reckons and made her arduous preparation all the more arduous. “Imagine running 40km a day on a 200m track?” she implored. Stop right there – you had us at “40km a day.” Well actually, you had us at “running” – that doesn’t sound pleasant. Will she jog old memories by winning the ace for the 3rd time? 9am BBC1 & 2 – Men’s Marathon
