Soccer – Gerrard eyes more silverware

February 29th, 2012 / bet365

Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool can go on and win more silverware after the Reds ended a six-year trophy drought by beating Cardiff City in the Carling Cup final. The Liverpool captain missed a penalty in the Wembley shoot-out after the Championship side had hit back to draw 2-2 after extra-time, but Bluebirds substitute Anthony Gerrard’s spot-kick miss proved decisive in the final analysis. It was a record eighth League Cup triumph for Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish’s men are 12/5 with bet365 to go on and win the FA Cup this season and 7/2 to finish in the top four of the Premier League. “The important thing now is to enjoy this cup final and then we need to build on it,” admitted England international Gerrard. “It would be stupid if we accept just this. We need more, we want more.”

Rugby League – Ellis opts to head home

February 29th, 2012 / bet365

Former Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats star Gareth Ellis will be back in Super League in 2013 after asking to leave NRL outfit Wests Tigers. Ellis has been in Australia for four years, but the 30-year-old has asked to be allowed to head home with another year left on his Wests contract. The decision is sure to alert a number of Super League clubs, with Leeds Rhinos, who are 11/2 with bet365 to be crowned Grand Final champions this season, reported to be one of the interested parties. “It has been a major decision for Gareth,” said his manager David Howes. “He feels the time is right to return home. “He had an understanding with Wests Tigers about 2013 and they have been top class in the matter. They said they wouldn’t have any problem releasing him for family reasons, as long as he didn’t go to another NRL club.”

Fergie targets Tottenham triumph

February 29th, 2012 / betfred

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted his side faces a huge clash against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend when the two teams meet at White Hart Lane (Tottenham 13/8, draw 11/5, United 11/8 Match Betting ). The encounter in north London will see second place take on third in the Premier League table with both clubs determined to keep frontrunners Manchester City in touching distance with the business end of the season in sight. United (6/4 Premier League outright ) head into this game on the back of three vital points against Norwich City at Carrow Road, as Ryan Giggs bagged an injury-time winner to keep the Red Devils firmly in the race for the title. Ferguson has been impressed with the football being played at White Hart Lane this term and believes his squad faces a tough test in the capital on Sunday. The Scotsman told Inside United: “It’s going to be a massive game at Spurs. “If we can survive that, then we’ll have a big chance of winning the league. “I should have more players available than I’ve had in the last few weeks because we’ve had a terrible spell of injuries.”

Poker Goal Achieved

February 29th, 2012 / betfred

Regular readers of this blog will remember me saying that I was planning on playing mainly tournament poker until the end of the year in an attempt to climb up the UK rankings on the poker forum PocketFives. Since coming back from Copenhagen I have been mainly playing tournaments and last night I ticked off one of my poker goals thanks to the amount of money I won. Until yesterday my two largest cashes stood at $406 and $478, both scores were hit within a week and I thought I was a poker god! But for one reason or another I never really pressed on and tried to play higher or hit higher scores but at the turn of the new year I set myself a number of goals relating to tournament poker and I managed to hit one last night. My first goal was to have a score of more than $500 and last night I cashed in a poker tournament for $520.82, which is a great feeling I can tell you and means that I have to go out all guns blazing in an attempt to achieve goal number two which is to have a score of $1,000 or more. The next one on the list after that is $5k then $10k but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here, eh?! I’m full of confidence about my game right now and I honestly would not be surprised if the $1,000+ score came this week. I’m playing much higher than I usually do and so far it seems to be paying off and I’ve made around $820 profit so far and we are at Tuesday! This could be the best poker week of my career so far!
