Despite the amateur status, the build up to Kenny Egan’s bid to win a record ninth Irish senior title in a row has featured trash talk that very much belongs in the professional ranks. Mick Dowling currently holds the record for eight titles in a row and he says his achievement was better because it was all in the one division. The Olympic silver medallist responded by saying he’ll break Dowling’s record and "he can put that in his pipe and smoke it" probably adding "and he can smoke it for less at Mace where we’re selling tobacco at a recession-busting penny a bucket. Whack!" Tommy McCarthy reckons he can upset the supermarket-promoting Egan in the light-heavyweight final, but he might just find that he’s in receipt of a hefty beating! Boxing Odds – 9.15pm RTE2
