The Spanish team has not missed out on a major tournament since Euro 1992.
The team's style is reminiscent of the Columbian team - with short passes, they strive to
keep the ball on the ground as much as possible. Such excellent ball skills give the team
a definite advantage over other teams that tend to lose possession.
But the talent and big names apart, Spain has always been the under
achievers in European football. In several matches, Spain have outplayed
their opponents only to lose the game at the end. An example is the 1996
Euro Cup defeat to England. Apart from toughness and innovative skills,
they will need to have luck as well as imaginative game plan in order to break the jinx.
Defensive rigour and midfield armoury will be the winning formula for Spain.
Coach Luis Aragonés seems to have evolved a new strategy to tackle the worrying fluctuations
in form early in qualifying. Spain will look for defensive solidity to match their growing confidence
going forward and imperative to the cause will be Iker Casillas, keeping goal for his country in
his fourth senior international tournament.
Aragonés is likely to deploy Casillas's Real Madrid CF team-mate
Sergio Ramos on the right side of defence as an attacking full-back and the Sevillano's combination
of youth, pace, strength and confidence are matched by his goalscoring ability. Villarreal CF's
Joan Capdevila sashays forward from left-back while Carlos Marchena partners defensive co-ordinator
Carles Puyol in the centre of defence.
While Valencia CF's David Albelda holding midfield role, central players
Xavi Hernández and Cesc Fabregas are free to create for a lone striker or a pairing up front.
Andrés Iniesta provides the pace on the counter-attack with the versatile midfielder comfortable
bursting through from central positions or from the right or the left, where he can switch with
another Valencia player, David Silva. Joaquín provides Aragonés with further options
out wide. Both Xavi and Iniesta are also capable of scoring goals, managing seven between them in
qualification. The Spanish strategy will be tough for the rivals to crack.
In attack, David Villa will be the first choice. Whether the Valencia
striker, who scored seven goals in qualification, plays on his own or in a partnership depends on
whether Aragonés opts to play 4-4-2 or his preferred 4-5-1. Should the veteran coach decide
on a two-man strike force, then his options to partner Villa include Fernando Torres, Raúl Tamudo,
Fernando Morientes and Raúl González, the Spain talisman who fell down the pecking
order during qualifying. A new approach to the game is on the cards and the prospects are exciting.

User opinions and Euro 2008 betting prediction on Spain:
Thanks for your preview. I already choose Spain 2 weeks ago.
I think that it's very difficult to say who will win, but there
are some arguments favouring Spain and Portugal.
I choose Spain and I'll tell u why
- A good and serious coach - Aragones
- One of the most powerfull defending line
- Talented midfielders
- Torres
I think that Italy will be the surprise of Euro 2008 - they will not pass the groups.
France it's strong enough to win the group. But that will be all for them.
Germany - I don't know why the bookies are favourising this team. In the KO stage they will go to the airport.
Portugal ... Well, it's hard to say...
Romania - too small for this big war ... I think that a draw with Italy will be Romanians best result this year.
Croatia - strong enough to win the group stage. And maybe more ... but not in the first 4 teams
Sweden, Greece, Czech, Swiss ... no danger for Spain.

I think the team with the best squad will win Euro 2008 and the team i think has the best squad is Spain, as there are no really strong teams in this tournament i think this has to be Spains best chance of finally lifting a trophy

Spain will win Euro2008!!
They have the players to do it this time!! fabregas has had his foot off the gas since arsenal were out of the league running so he will be firing! and torres didnt start a lot of the season - no excuses for them this time!!

Spain.
In Fernando Torres, Spain have arguably the best striker in the world, Mikel Arteta doesn't get a look in because the midfield is so strong, Ramos and Puyol have quality and experience at the back and Casillas will be one of the best goalkeepers in the tournament. They've underachieved in the past but have never really had a squad as good as this one.

I have read your latest mail with the invitation to predict who will be the next champion of Eurooe in football, and here is my prediction:The champion will be Spain, after I have looked the possibilities which teams can play each other until the final, and,if I am correct,Spainyards can not meet Germans until the final, and that is really important, because you should not forget that old well-known rule that "The football is the game what is played by 22 players, and the winner are Germans!".So,having no doubt that Germans will be playing practically at home, with strong support of their fans,I do expect them in the final, and,in my opinion, only wise and patient team can wait and execute its own chances during the match, and that would be Spain,in my opinion, because Torres and Villa can solve every match by themselves solely, and I am dare to predict even the right score in their final with Germans-1:0 for Spain!Good luck to all of you friends!

I think that Spain should be hot favourites to win the competition because they
have always had a strong squad and been tipped high but have never been succesful in recent years. I think its there time.
I back Spain for the Euro 2008 competition
--
Who will win Euro2008?
I'd back Spain.
With players like Fabregas, S. Ramos, Xavi Alonso, Iniesta and first of all the best forward Torres they have the best chances to win a major tournament at last.
:)

Champions: Spain
Dark horses: Croatia & Poland

My reccomendation for the Euro 2008 is Spain because unlike other tournaments where they have failed to live up to the expectations, I feel they now have that extra bit of quality in their side with the likes of fabregas, torres and villa and also albiol. As a nice little extra i back Spain and torres (double).
--
I think Spain will win the Euro 2008 - Although they have previously not performed to expectations in international football, I feel that they can go all the way this year and win, there two strikers torres and villa are on great form and will be smashing them goals into the oppositions goal. They have a strong defence, with the likes of puyol ,ramos etc...and world class creative midfielders such as fabregas and silva, they definitely pose the biggest threat in this years euro competition.
--
My Euro 2008 winner prediction is ... Spain
Having faltered at most tournaments I can remember I feel the time is right for them to come good.A fantastic goalkeeper, pretty solid defence the skills of Fabregas in midfield and the firepower of Torres and Villa up front should get them pretty far.

Spain
Squad shake-up...leaving Raul out sends a message to rest of squad.....its a must win tournament for them.
Good results in qualification, all round strongest team at the finals
--
I will predict Spain to win, My money has gone on Portugal so i thought i'd pick someone different for this prediction. With the season Torres has had, I can't see Spain not scoring in any games - their midfield is exceptional and with Iker Casillas they have the worlds best keeper in my opinion
