The ATP Tennis betting will be back with us shortly, as the 2013 season starts on December 31st of this year. The top stars in the world will only have two weeks to find their top games before the start of the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open. So the world’s top players will be back in action on the court very soon and here we take a look at an ATP Tennis betting preview for the 2013 season and see who may dominate the scene.

Number One at 2013 Seasons End Betting Odds
Serbia’s Novak Djokovic was in a tussle over the second half of season in 2012 with Roger Federer for the number one spot. Federer wrestled back the top spot after winning Wimbledon but it was Djokovic, with some incredible end of season form who finished the season top of the pile. The battle for the top spot was helped along because of the long term injury to Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who missed half the season. Nadal is already back on court getting ready for the new season but finds himself a long way back on points in the South African Airways ATP Rankings. Nadal has almost half as many points as leader Djokovic has and that is a huge gap to try and close. So Djokovic looks more than likely to hold on to his number one spot at the end of next season. He should earn enough points through the big tournaments throughout the year to keep his advantage.

Can Roger Federer challenge? Probably, but you wouldn’t look for him to be going as deep, as consistently as Djokovic when it comes to the big Tour points on offer. When it comes to 2013 Grand Slam Tennis betting, Djokovic has to take precedence over Federer, especially if Nadal gets back in the picture. The return of Nadal will mean that the Grand Slam could be split quite evenly this term, as it was last year. The top four in the world each got their hands on one, and it would take a supreme amount of dominance in the Majors for say Federer or Andy Murray to break Djokovic’s grip on top spot.

So can Andy Murray challenge for the end of season number one spot? He of course made his Grand Slam breakthrough last season when taking the US Open in an epic final against Novak Djokovic. It will be very interesting to see how he pushes on from that, whether he can use that experience as a building block for more Grand Slam success in 2012. But again, you look at how much has been won over the past couple of seasons by proven winners, and you lean back towards Djokovic.

The Serb came out firing last season, taking the Australian Open title in January. He couldn’t add to that, but he came close. If he doesn’t pick up a Grand Slam title during the 2013 season then something will seriously be wrong. The world number one is already at a price of 1/5 to take another Grand Slam title in 2013. The form that he was carrying at the back end of last season, and his performances at the Slams (three finals out of four) suggest nothing other than more success coming his way. But the question is, how many? He only picked up the one last season following his remarkable 2011 where he took three. A shot at two Slams for him at a price of 11/4 with online bookmaker Paddy Power looks value. He is going for his third Australian Open in a row and you would back him on the hard court at the US Open as well. Novak Djokovic Number Of 2013 Grand Slam Wins Odds: One 11/8, Two 11/4, None 10/3, Three 16/1, Four 40/1

Andy Murray 2013 Betting Specials
Can the British number one deliver again? While he is trading as second favourite in the market to finish the 2013 ATP season as number one, in order to get close to that he would really need to pull out a couple of Grand Slam wins through the season. Is he close enough to Djokovic to do that? This is the thing, it is unknown, Murray is still an unknown quantity. He broke his duck, but he is not yet a proven multiple Grand Slam champion, so it is hard to say. Again, the biggest stumbling block for Murray is going to be Djokovic. Murray reached the final of Wimbledon last season before taking the win at Flushing Meadows. It really could be decent value in backing him at odds of 4/6 to win a Grand Slam in 2013 and probably Wimbledon and the Australian Open presents his best shots. The Brit could snatch either one of them, especially with the challenge of Federer expected to fade this season and Nadal needing competitive time back on court to prove himself.

Roger Federer Betting Specials
The bookies are pretty much writing off the Fed Express for the 2013 season. The Swiss superstar took his first Grand Slam title in ten attempts last season at Wimbledon, not making it past the semi finals in any of the other three. That was a massive achievement for Federer, which saw him climb to the top of the world rankings, but how much longer can he sustain himself at the top events against the youth of the other three? You expect him to be down the pecking order behind Djokovic and Murray (if the Brit really is on his upward swing). The chances of Federer taking a Slam next season is reflected in his odds of 6/11 to not take one. He is most likely to show up at Wimbledon with the deepest run in one of the majors and Federer to win 1 major is trading at 7/4 with online bookmaker Paddy Power. Highly unlikely to go beyond that, and there may just be better value in backing him to not take anything.

Rafael Nadal Betting Specials
What is to come in 2013 for Nadal? After taking the French Open title for the seventh time in eight season, his second round exit at Wimbledon was the last competitive action that the Spaniard played last year. How long will the road back from injury be? A fit Nadal would be pushing Djokovic hard for all Grand Slam titles, but it could take a few months for him to get back to full match sharpness. So what he will deliver, how his health will be, is anyone’s guess. But there is his record at Roland Garros which is phenomenal. He has a 52-1 record on the clay at the French Open and if he is going to strike back, then it will be there. He should have enough time and matches to be back to his best by then and worth taking a shot at him winning 1 Slam in 2014 for odds of 11/10 at online bookmaker Paddy Power. If it happens, it should be there.
