2014 Premier League darts betting heads to the halfway stage of the season this week, and it is crunch time for the bunch looking over their shoulders nervously at the bottom two. Following Thursday’s round of matches at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, the bottom two will get relegated, leaving the remaining eight to duke it out over the second half of the season for a top four finish which will send them through the finals night.

Australia’s Simon Whitlock has already been relegated and so even if the Wizard manages to pull off a shock win over Michael van Gerwen on Thursday, it wouldn’t do him any good. The table-topping Gerwen is likely going to be strong for Whitlock and the Dutchman is 2/7 favourite to win his match.

Starting the week in the other relegation spot is Wes Newton and he takes on Dave Chisnall on Thursday night in a massive relegation scrap. Both players have the same points on the board, but Chisnall has a better leg-difference of eight over Newton, so Newton needs to bust out a win here somehow. He has actually won twice this season, where Chisnall has only taken one win. Newton is 9/5 to take the victory, with Chisnall at 5/4.

Also level on points with Chisnall and Newton is Robert Thornton who has a tough match as he takes on Phil Taylor. So the Scotsman need a win, but will really be hoping that Newton loses against Chisnall because Thorton has a massive leg-difference advantage over Newton. So if they both finish level on points, Newton will probably tumble.

Taylor, after an indifferent season has done enough to secure himself a place in the second half of the season, sitting on seven points. Even if he loses to Thornton, he’s not going to take the drop, no matter what happens in the Chisnall v Newton match. There’s a heavyweight clash between Adrian Lewis (6/5) and Raymond van Barneveld (28/17) in the top four. The night’s other match sees second placed Peter Wright, who lost for the first time last week against Van Gerwen, take on Gary Anderson.
