Final four set for finals night at the O2

Darts Betting

It is finals night this week in your 2014 Premier League Darts Betting. After a thrilling season, in which Phil Taylor failed to finish top of the ladder, it is down to the final four. The league-winning honour went to Mighty Mike, Michael van Gerwen, who held off a great challenge by his compatriot Raymond van Barneveld. Barney slumped to back to back defeats at the end of the season (one of them against Van Gerwen) to settle for second, while Van Gerwen won the Premier League for the second season running.

Joining them in the top four was Phil Taylor, who recovered resplendently from his terrible opening to the season to finish third, level on points with Van Barneveld, and also level with Gary Anderson who took fourth place. So now the season finale heads to The 02 in London on Thursday, May 22nd starting with the semi finals (best of 15 legs) and the Final itself (best of 19 legs).

Michael van Gerwen v Gary Anderson and Raymond van Barnaveld v Phil Taylor is the line up for the semi finals for Premier League darts betting. Credit to Anderson here because he beat both Van Gerwen and Van Barneveld during the end of season run in to make his way to the playoffs. In the season’s other meeting, back in March, Anderson scrapped well in a 5-7 defeat against the Dutchman. So this one may be closer than punters will be thinking, but still it is going to be hard to look past the 4/11 favouritism of Van Gerwen in the match up. From 21 previous encounters between the two, Mighty Mike holds a 14-7 lead.

The other semi final sees an old classic revive its head, as Phil Taylor takes on Van Barneveld. Taylor is trading as overwhelming favourite at 4/11 to bag the win as well, even though the two of them played out to two drawn matches during the regular season. Like the first semi, this should be tight, but if you are looking at form, then Taylor, who lost four of his first five matches of the season, went unbeaten in his last eleven, and while Barneveld put together a twelve match unbeaten streak during the season, he snapped it with those two defeats at the end. From 63 previous meetings, Taylor has won 48 of those encounters, to just 11 by Barneveld.

At this stage last season, Taylor beat Barneveld 8-4 in the semi finals, while Van Gerwen tore James Wade apart. So another Phil Taylor v Michael van Gerwen final is on the cards (Van Gerwen winning last year’s final 10-8).

Van Gerwen to win the Premier League title outright is trading at 5/4 with Paddy Power, with six-time winner Taylor at 6/4. Anderson and Barneveld are both 8/1 shots to land the title. A Michael van Gerwen v Phil Taylor option in the Name the Finalists market is a predictable odds on offer at 4/5.
