The British bookmaker should be forced to pay out at least once as there have been nine previous nine-dart finishes in the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace.

Raymond van Barneveld hit the first in 2009 and another in 2010. Adrian Lewis played a perfect leg in the 2011 final against Gary Anderson, with Dean Winstanley and Michael van Gerwen achieving the feat two years later. The 2014 event saw Terry Jenkins and Kyle Anderson posting nine-darters within an hour of each other while Lewis, again, managed the feat in 2015. Gary Anderson also recorded his own nine-darter in last year’s semi-final against Jelle Klaasen.

William Hill are offering odds of 6/5 that there are no nine-dart finishes in the 2016/17 tournament at Ally Pally and 11/4 that there are two or more. It is a general 7/4 that there is exactly one nine-darter. You can get 8/13 with several layers that there will be at least one to thrill the crowds with a nine-dart finish and a 170 checkout available at 4/6 with Betfred.

The same firm have a market for individual players to record a nine-darter with van Barneveld at 9/1 and Lewis at 13/2 probably fairly priced given they have ‘previous’ and can obviously keep mounting nerves in check. Defending world champion Anderson is 11/4 and Betfred are offering 4/1 that there are five or more 170 checkouts.
