August brings about the final two events in the World Series of Darts. This event goes over five tournament which are held in Dubai, Auckland, Tokyo, Sydney and Perth through the season and the top eight players from across those five events will be the eight seeded players where the Ladbrokes World Series of Darts Finals arrive in November, which will be held in Glasgow.

So there is the Sydney Darts Masters and then the Perth event to come to round off the series of month. The World Series of Darts was only started last year, so it is still a relatively new thing and it covers the world to increase the fan base of the popular sport. The Sydney Darts Masters though will be going into its fourth staging this year and the event will host the top sixteen players in the PDC.

The tournament runs from August 18th – 20th from The Star in Sydney and defending his title this year will be Phil Taylor who is actually a three time defending champion of the tournament. Taylor though is running at a quote of 9/2 with online betting site Ladbrokes for the Sydney tournament, which makes him third favourite. Taylor took down Adrian Lewis in emphatic 11-3 fashioned in last season’s final.

The top eight seeds going into the draw this year are (in ranking order) Gary Anderson, Michael van Gerwen, James Wade, Adrian Lewis, Phil Taylor, Dave Chisnall, Raymond van Barneveld and Peter Wright. Going as outright favourite in the 2016 Sydney Darts Masters is Michael van Gerwen at a quote of 11/10 which is no surprise really. Van Gerwen has already claimed the UK Open, Premier League, World Match Play and The Masters this season along with numerous other lower ranking tournaments.

Van Gerwen is the reigning champion in the World Series of Darts after having grown the Finals last year after taking down Peter Wright in the showcase match in a thrilling 11-10 victory. Mighty Mike is a man who is very hard to knock off his perch. However, if you are looking to oppose him in the 2016 Sydney Darts Masters then he has only won one of his last five tournaments heading into this one. So perhaps a little dip in form here and that could let someone else slide through the door.

The most likely to do that would be Gary Anderson who has won World Series titles in Dubai, Tokyo and Auckland this year and he goes off as 4/1 second favourite, splitting Van Gerwen and Taylor. That makes Anderson perhaps the best value in the pack for the Sydney tournament. The Scot has won the World Championships and the World Matchplay this season. The Scot should really be in the mix here at the business end of things. As they are first and second seeds respectively for the 2016 Sydney Darts Masters betting, Anderson and Michael van Gerwen will be kept apart until the final.
