Record-breaker Murray among the favourite for a SPOTY four-timer

Novelty Betting & Other Events Betting

Andy Murray won the BBC Sports Personality of The Year award for a record third time in four years in Birmingham over the weekend and Paddy Power have priced up the world’s number one tennis player at 9/2 to take the prize again in 2017.

When you become a new customer of Paddy Power via online-betting.me.uk you automatically receive a free £30 bet but this is only activated when you, as a new customer, place a minimum stake of £10 with minimum odds of 1.50 (1/2). When that is done Paddy Power will give you 3 free bets of £10 each (3 x £10). This offer is only valid for new customers.

Any possible winnings will be displayed on the betting receipt. This will include the stake but because this is a free offer, the stake will not be returned, only the winnings. This offer can only be used on Paddy Power and only in their sportsbook; it cannot be used in any other part of the Paddy Power website.

Although Paddy Power accepts payment from Skrill/Moneybookers and Neteller they do not accept these methods of payment for this free bet offer. Terms and conditions apply, please see full details directly at Paddy Power.

The short-list for SPOTY in 2016 had to be extended, such was the success that British sportsmen and woman enjoyed this year. There are no really big events or tournaments in 2017, however, so nominators can be more selective. Heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua is the early favourite to claim the BBC award in 12 months’ time in anticipation of a victory over Wladimir Klitschko at the end of April. He’s only a best 9/4, however, and that looks short of value given he’ll disappear from the list altogether if he suffers a defeat.

Lewis Hamilton is 8/1 but most F1 fans will be taking another world championship for granted now that Nico Rosberg has retired – Hamilton would probably have to win almost every race to be considered for SPOTY. It is the World Athletics Championships next year but, despite Mo Farah’s success on the track, he’s consistently polled low in the voting and you just couldn’t have any British footballer at the moment. Cricket, too, has little lined-up in the next 12 months but there is a Lions Tour coming up in rugby union but England’s Billy Vunipola and Owen Farrell priced up at 66/1 and 80/1 respectively.

Paddy Power Odds for the 2017 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award

Anthony Joshua (9/4), Andy Murray (9/2), Lewis Hamilton (8/1), Rory McIlroy and Chris Froome (10/1), Harry Kane, Ronnie O’Sullivan and Billy Vunipola (66/1), Owen Farrell (80/1), Amir Khan (100/1)
