Limato's class should prevail in the Sprint Cup

Horse Racing Betting

There was obviously some disappointment when LIMATO was beaten in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York. But 5f on a sharp track like the Knavesmire was always going to be a big ask and he came up against a mare in Mecca’s Angel who was just too quick on the day. That said, the pair quickly went clear inside the final furlong and Harry Bentley was quick to accept his fate on the second so no harm was done.

Though there have been a few shocks down the years in the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock, trainer Henry Candy has won two of the last six renewals so the general 2/1 about his Limato restoring his reputation is simply too big to ignore and warrants a maximum bet with a draw towards the stands’ rail likely to be no barrier to success.

But if you are willing to become a new customer of Coral and have £5 to spare, I’d be very tempted to take up their odds of 10/1 for QUIET REFLECTION to finish in the first three.

Limato is rated 6lb superior to anything else in the Sprint Cup but Karl Burke’s three-year-old is joint second-best along with Suedois, second to Limato in the July Cup at Newmarket but only a head in front of Quiet Reflection. The filly had beaten this Saturday’s opponents Donjuan Triumphant and Kachy at Haydock and Ascot respectively earlier and is very smart.

Dancing Star looks the other interesting contender for the 32Red Sprint Cup as she’s been a revelation this year, winning four of her five starts. However, it’s a massive step up from winning an albeit competitive handicap off bottom weight at Goodwood to taking on Group 1 sprinters and I fear it will prove too much for Andrew Balding’s filly, who offers little real value at the general 8/1. Mr Lupton beat her on much worse terms at York in July yet is available at 33/1.
