Anthony Joshua unified three heavyweight titles on Saturday night at Wembley when he won his epic duel with former champion Wladimir Klitschko. It was a much-hyped bout between the younger pretender to the throne of heavyweight boxing, AJ and the veteran Klitschko who was looking to redeem himself after that shock defeat against Tyson Fury eight months ago.

The fight didn’t disappoint and Joshua looked as if he had this opponent beaten in the fifth, knocking the Ukrainian to the canvas, only for Klitschko to not only get back up, but to have Joshua on the deck in the very next round. That sixth round looked as if it was curtains for Joshua, who looked out on his feet, but he hung in there and landed a telling uppercut in the 11th round, the referee then stepping in to end the fight.

The popularity of the win has seen the price of Anthony Joshua slashed to 1.49 at Betfair to win the Sports Personality of the Year Award 2017. Frankly, there is unlikely to be anyone coming along the rest of the year, not even if Andy Murray goes on a tear and wins all three remaining Grand Slams of the year, to stop Joshua winning the title. If he lifts the Sports Personality of the Year Award 2017 then Joshua would be the first boxer to win it since Joe Calzaghe in 2007.
