Arsenal v Bayern Munich Betting Preview – UEFA Champions League 7th March 7.45pm

The drama has pretty much been taken out of this tie as Arsenal were hammered 5-1 at the Allianz Arena in the first leg. Bayern Munich were on cruise control against the Gunners and with the Germans motoring along at the moment, there is only one team likely to progress to the next round. But can Arsenal at least restore a little bit of pride by making it back to back home wins over the German powerhouses? There have been a total of 34 goals in the last eleven games played between these and while the Gunners aren’t going to get close to overturning their massive deficit it will be interesting to see if they can muster up any kind of fight, particularly after another Premier League loss on the weekend.

Arsenal v Bayern Munich Betting Tips

Arsenal then face a huge deficit in this one. They just have to go out and attack because they have nothing to lose, going into the second leg 5-1 down. Just once in 80 attempts has a team overturned a 5-1 deficit at home in UEFA club competition so history isn’t on their side at all. Arsenal’s form has dived to four losses in their last six games across all competitions after losing at Liverpool in the Premier League on the weekend. So they are lacking the form and confidence right now. No club has progressed in a Champions League knockout tie after losing the first leg by four or more goals (9 occasions) so more history against them. Arsenal have a decent home record of just 10 losses from their 62 Champions League home games, and six of those ten have happened in the knockout stages.

Four of their last six losses in the competitions have come at the Emirates in the round of sixteen and two of those were against Bayern Munich. Over 2.5 goals at Bet365 looks an obvious way to go out of the gates for a price of 8/15 and there is a much better quote of 5/4 on the game going over 3.5 goals and nothing wrong with having a punt on that. Of the eleven match ups that these two have gone through previously in the UEFA Champions League, Arsenal have won three and lost six against Bayern. Arsenal didn’t get a shot on target in the second half of the first leg, which was after getting five on the board in the first 45 minutes. Olivier Giroud is 8/5 in the Bet365 anytime goalscorer market with Alexis Sanchez, who was benched on the weekend, at 7/5. Both teams to score looks an obvious punt as well at 8/15. Arsenal’s record against German clubs at home is W11 D1 L5 and they have won their last two.

Something that may at least give Arsenal a shot at winning the game is that Bayern Munich haven’t been great out on the road in the competition. Indeed the Germans have taken just the one win in their last six Champions League away games, losing half of those. Each of the defeats in that sequence have been by a one goal margin. Arsenal to win by a one goal margin at Bet365 will return you 4/1 action. Bayern Munich have gone with a poor W3 D3 L7 record in their last 13 UEFA Champions League away games. Also on top of that, they have failed to win any of their last eight games in the knockout stage as well away from home in a D4 L4 record. Bayern’s record away to English teams is W5 D8 L8. In the correct score market, the shortest priced option is a 1-1 draw with a Bayern Munich 2-1 win at 8/1.

Robert Lewandowski has three goals in seven Champions League games against Arsenal and Arjen Robben has scored in back to back games against the Gunners. They are a price of 4/6 and 8/5 respectively in the Bet365 anytime goalscorer market for this one. Only Lionel Messi and Edinson Cavani have scored more Champions League goals than Lewandowski has this season. Bayern Munich have hit some decent form lately with a W5 D1 record on the board in their last six played across all competitions and just in their last three played they have scored a total of 14 goals, conceding none. Their away form then in the Champions League is nothing to write home about at all and that will allow Arsenal to get at them early on, but the cushion that the Germans have is just too commanding and they will get chances the more open Arsenal are.

Arsenal v Bayern Munich Predictions

The Gunners are in too big of a hole going into this game to turn the actual tie around, but they can make a run at restoring some pride. However with four defeats in their last six games in all competitions, they aren’t exactly running in red hot form at the moment and even though Bayern don’t have to turn up and be focused, the visitors are going to be good enough to coast their way to a draw in this one. Settle for the draw in the match outright, there’s nothing for Arsenal to chase in this one and it’ll probably peter out.
