Atletico Madrid v Bayern Munich Betting Preview – UEFA Champions League 28th September

Cracking match for Wednesday night and this should be a great showdown. It is pretty much likely going to boil down to a battle between these two for top spot in their Champions League group and Bayern may have a tricky time on their hands as they try and bank a win at the Calderon. The Germans fell at the hands of the Spaniards in last season’s UEFA Champions League semi finals, so this won’t be easy. Atletico Madrid are looking very much like their usual selves again and have won 25 of their last 30 home games in Europe. But then again, Bayern have been in immense form as well this season. This should be the highlight of Wednesday’s action.

Atletico Madrid v Bayern Munich Betting Tips

This is the big clash of Wednesday night in the UEFA Champions League. Just five months ago these two were going at it in the Champions League semi final and it was the Spaniards who won through. They banked a 1-0 home win and while they lost 2-1 back out in Germany, they did enough to make it through to the final. So can they land another blow on Bayern Munich? Prior to that, these two had scrapped it out in the 1974 European Cup Final which Bayern had won after a replay after Madrid had so nearly won the first match. Atletico Madrid carded a 1-0 away win over PSV Eindhoven to open their campaign with this season and let’s not forget that they are a major force at home. Atletico have won 25 of their last 30 European home matches in a W25 D3 L2 record there in that sequence. Not only that, they are unbeaten in their last six at home against German sides (W5 D1).

Atletico hold a W12 D2 L3 from previous home fixtures against German sides, so they are strong. In their four previous games against Bayern though, Atletico have not managed to score more than one goal in a game against the Germans. An Atletico 1-0 correct score here will fetch you a quote of 13/2, while a 1-1 correct score is a 5/1 price. Antoine Griezmann will be relied upon for the goals again and the Frenchman is trading at a quote of 2/1 in the anytime goalscorer market for this one. He’s actually netted four of Atletico’s last five home goals in the competition. Atletico have only lost one of their last 17 home Champions League matches (W13 D3) and overall have only lost two of their last 19 UEFA Champions League Group Stage matches, winning 14 of those. You imagine that they will only get something out of a low scoring game though and under 2.5 goals is trading at a price of 8/15.

So what of Bayern Munich under their new boss Carlo Ancelotti who has had to try and fill the shoes of Pep Guardiola? Well, eight wins from eight games across all competitions is a pretty solid way to start a new job. They have looked impressive and on Match Day One, they put a 5-0 win on the board against Champions League debutants FC Rostov. Out on the road though in Europe, Bayern aren’t going too well. They have only won two of their last ten UEFA Champions League away games (D3 L5) and have lost each of their last three visits to Spain as well (all in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League). They haven’t hit the back of the net in any of their last three visits to Spain either. Both teams to score in his fixture is trading at a price of even money.

But of course Bayern Munich do carry a tremendous attacking force with them. They have Robert Lewandowski who is a price of 6/5 in the anytime goalscorer market, with Thomas Muller at 9/4. Muller incidentally has netted 16 goals in his last 19 Champions League starts. They recently saw the return of Arjen Robben as well after a long lay off through injury. They look solid, strong and defensively on point under Ancelotti. This is the 19th time in the last 20 seasons that they are in the UEFA Champions League and Bayern have been victorious in 19 of their last 23 Group Stage matches in the competition (D1 L3) and in that sequence they have collected 13 clean sheets and have failed so score in just one of those 23 games as well. They have the defense to shut down Atletico, but will they be able to find a way to break Atletico’s own strong defence?

Atletico Madrid v Bayern Munich Predictions

A great game and it should be a big tactical battle between these two heavyweights. Atletico don’t give up too much at all, while Bayern have been brilliant at the back as well this season. So you would expect a low scoring game to play out. Across all competitions, neither have lost a game this season and it may just be worth looking at the 1-1 draw. Bayern would be the happier with that.
