Wawrinka to spoil Nadal return

Tennis Betting

It is a year of new adventures for the start of the ATP and for this first week of action in the new year, the big guns are split across a couple of tournaments. There is Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic duking it out in Doha, while Rafa Nadal headlines the action from Brisbane at 7/2 favourite with Coral. With the Australian Open coming up later in the month, this is good preparation work to kick the season off with here and actually this is the strongest field in the history of the tournament.

Half of the top ten players in the Emirates ATP Ranking are in the mix with world No. 3 and reigning champion Milos Raonic, No. 4 Stan Wawrinka, No. 5 Kei Nishikori, No. 8 Dominic Thiem and No. 9 Rafael Nadal going for the title. Reigning champion Raonic is holding top seed in a tournament for the first time in his career and he will be looking to build on 2015 which was a career best season for him. He took down Federer in last season’s final of Brisbane for his eighth career ATP World Tour title.

Kei Nishikori has been to the semi-final of Brisbane the time before but never any further. As for Wawrinka and Nadal, they are making their debuts at the tournament. This could be a big year for youngster Dominic Thiem who was the youngest player to finish in the top ten rankings last year and he played the second most amount of matches last season (behind Murray) and also played in the most tournaments last term too. Can he take things up to the next level?

David Ferrer slipped backwards a bit last year ending the tour outside of the top twenty, so he has work to put in to raise his stock again. It will just be so interesting to see how Nadal and Wawrinka go in this one, as well as how Raonic handles the pressure of being a top seed. There should be a tremendous amount of competitive action coming from Brisbane in the early build up to the Australian Open 2017.

ATP Brisbane 2017 Tennis Betting Predictions

Fiercely competitive is how we would expect this tournament to be to kick off the new year of ATP Tour action. It’s hard to nail down a winner in this one as you have four evenly priced players at the head of the market which you won’t see happening too often. So it is to the draw that we will look to for an edge. We would swing with Wawrinka here who has a great strike rate in finals. His challenge really won’t’ start until the semi finals where he would likely meet either Ferrer or Nishikori. The road for the rest involves just that little bit more.
