There is some big tennis action this week at the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters with most of the big guns in the game out for a crack at this. The only notable absentee is Roger Federer who, after his incredible season so far, is resting up ahead of the French Open. It leaves clay legend Rafael Nadal as 9/4 out right favourite at Bet365 in ATP Rolex Masters tennis betting and this is the swing of the season when you would expect to see him step things up even further.

Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic are there in the beautiful setting at the Monte Carlo Country Club but Nadal is the one to stop perhaps. He claimed a run of eight consecutive titles at the event between 2005 and 2012 and then he snapped a three season drought by bouncing back to take the title again there last year. So he is back as the defending champion. In two of the three years since 2005 that Nadal hasn’t won, it was Novak Djokovic who got his hands on the title, with the other one going to Stan Wawrinka.

So that leaves Murray, who is the number one seed for the event, looking or his maiden title there. Murray goes as a 4/1 third favourite in the field, with Djokovic, because of his history at the clay event, at 5/2. Both are back in action after having missed Miami through injury and both of which suffered early exits at Indian Wells. Stan Wawrinka brings up the big four with a price of 7/1 on his shoulders, leaving the rest of the field at big prices. It’s always worth a look at the draw and Murray won’t be too unhappy with what he has. A potential quarter final option is Marin Cilic with Wawrinka waiting in the semi finals perhaps.

It means that down in the bottom half of the draw you have Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic paired up in a potential semi final epic showdown. Given the quality of the two, neither really should be denied a place in the quarter finals of their respective section at all. So will Rafa Nadal be able to make it the perfect 10 at Monte Carlo? Will Novak Djokovic make it a hattrick of titles there or will Andy Murray make his breakthrough in this Masters 1000 tournament. Incidentally, The ‘Big Four’ of Andy Murray, Djokovic, Nadal and Roger Federer have won 58 of the past 63 Masters 1000 tournaments.

Murray had a career-best season on clay last season but coming back after time away from the game, like Djokovic, that has to raise a bit of a question. There’s nothing wrong with backing Nadal in this one simply on the weight of history and he can get close to number ten in Monte Carlo.
