Novak Djokovic is the defending champion of the Rogers Cup and he is back gunning for the defence of his title after surprisingly missing out on an Olympic medal. The Serbian was looking in good shape until he lost a thriller in the semi final against Andy Murray. There was a high level of ball retrieval between the two players, but Murray just had the edge on the day with some flawless tennis. Then Djokovic missed out in the bronze medal match as well, going down against big serving Argentinian Juan Martin del Potro. So if anyone in this Toronto field needs a bounce back performance this week it is going to be Novak Djokovic. He does go as number one seed with a 17-3 record at the event, and he is a two time winner here. There have been only two titles during 2012 for Djokovic, but he will look forward to getting back on the hard court. Novak Djokovic, who is probably going to be the hungriest man in the field. Andy Murray. Will he have the Olympic hangover. What a week it was for him back at Wimbledon. The powerful Argentinian was involved in the longest ever Olympic match against Roger Federer in the semi finals. The final set just went on and on and on, and all credit to Del Potro who really was looking to take the game to Federer, but just couldn’t convert his chances against the world number one. The former US Open champion looked good though and although it was a disappointing manner in which to go out after such an epic match, he should take heart that he punched pound for pound with the best in the world. Del Potro goes in Djokovic’s quarter and a meeting between those two this week would truly be fascinating

Canada’s own Milos Raonic, the youngster with the monster serve. When Raonic gets his power game going, he is pretty hard to stop. Some of the big names in the world have found that out already this season. Has only been seeded sixteenth, which puts him on course for a quarter final match with Andy Murray, which means that if Murray is still celebrating his Olympic win and isn’t focused, then Raonic will be the biggest benefactor. Raonic has two tour titles this year.
