Austria v Hungary Euro 2016

Austria v Hungary Betting Preview – Euro 2016, 14th June

Hungary had to come through the play offs against Norway to book their spot at France 2016. With a lack of goals and a weak defence, they may struggle to make an impression in Group F of Euro 2016. They have a tough opener against Austria who went unbeaten in their qualification campaign, dropping just the two points along the way. Will they be able to carry forward that great form to the Finals and kick things off with a winning start against the Hungarians?

Austria v Hungary Betting Tips

Austria are one of the dark horses in the tournament. Much has been made about their progress as they stormed through Euro 2016 qualification with a W9 D1 record. That was brilliant and they took top spot over Russia and Sweden to make the Finals. They only conceded he five goals along the way, but will they be able to pack a big enough punch up top to progress far in the European Championships? Austria have gone W2 L3 in their last five games played so it’s hard to see what they will have learned from those friendly matches. Their 2-0 defeat against Holland in their final warm up match is the only game in their last nine in which they have failed to score. Actually, Austria have scored at least two goals in seven of their last eight games. They can be backed at a quote of 7/5 to win this to nil, which has to has some appeal.

Austria have a very nice balance about them and their main goalscoring threat is Marc Janko who can be backed at 5/4 in the anytime goalscorer market for the game. He netted seven goals during qualification, but the balance in Austria’s setup can be seen from the support from the likes of defender David Alaba who scored four, and Marko Arnautovic and Martin Harnik who both netted three each along the way. So they showed some good positive, attacking prowess through qualification, how will they fare if they make it through to the knockout stages? Their biggest test in the group stage will be breaking down Portugal’s tough defence in what is likely to be a clash for top spot. There have only been the three previous meetings between these two, honours standing even at one win each and draw.

Hungary are one of the play off winners that made it through to Euro 2016. They had to edge past Norway to get to France 2016 after finishing third in her qualifying group behind Northern Ireland and Romania. They did beat Norway in both legs of their play offs but overall they have won just three of their last nine played (D4 L2) so they are not in winning form at all. They don’t look like a high scoring side and have failed to score in two of their last three played (one goal in total in that sequence). You are going to wonder where the goals are going to come from for them. Because they don’t pose a huge threat, it is worth looking at the game going under 2.5 goals which is a quote of 8/13 with online betting site Boylesports and you can go and find some value in the correct score market where an Austria 1-0 selection is a 9/2 quote.

Austria v Hungary Predictions

Hard to see very much being produced by Hungary at all in this one. Austria looked strong through qualification and have the goals in them. Their defence may get shown up down the line against better sides, but here they should be just fine. Worth having a crack at Austria to win to nil here.
