Barcelona v PSG Betting Preview – UEFA Champions League 8th March 7.45pm

Can Barcelona really do this? Can they battle their way back from a 4-0 deficit and get through to the quarter finals? It would be one of the great all time comebacks in the history of the competition if they can pull it off. They have won their last two La Liga games by a 6-1 and 5-0 scoreline and that’s the firepower that they have and they will need every ounce of it after losing the first leg against PSG 4-0. It’s a long way back for the Spaniards and PSG just have to turn up and put in a solid defensive display, so they hold all of the aces. There has to be some drama to come in this one surely.

Barcelona v PSG Betting Tips

Will Barcelona pull off the unthinkable and managed to book a place in the quarter finals of this season’s Champions League? Barcelona have gotten to the quarter finals in each of their last nine seasons and are looking for a record 10th on the bounce, but they are going to need something spectacularly special to pull it off. Barcelona lost 4-0 in Paris in the first leg and no side has ever overturned a 4-0 first leg away defeat in the UEFA Champions League (from five previous occasions that it has happened). Barcelona were shocking in that first leg but they have won their last two knockout encounters with PSG in the competition after losing their first one against the French outfit. In the 2012/13 Champions League, Barcelona lost 4-0 at Bayern Munich and then went on to lose the second leg at home 3-0. However, Barcelona have won all four of their games since losing that first leg in Paris.

They also have a big record of winning form on home soil going too as they have won each of their last 14 Champions League home games, scoring 44 goals and conceding 6. There is a strong forecast for goals to rain down in this one and over 3.5 goals at Bet365 is a price of 5/6. Neymar has five goals in five games against PSG and he is a price of 20/21 in the anytime goalscorer market, with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at 4/7. None of them managed a shot on target in the first leg. Barcelona have scored eleven goals in their last two games in the build up to this one and they hold a record of W7 D2 L1 at home against French opposition. Barcelona have won all three of their home games in the Champions League this season with a goal difference of 15-0 so if there is one team in the world you would back to do this, it would be them. The minimum 4-0 win to take this to extra time is an 18/1 option in the Bet365 correct score market.

PSG pretty much just have to turn up and keep focused. They won’t care if they park the bus for 90 minutes and get through, but nerves will be jangling if Barcelona get a couple of goals on the board early. PSG have been to the quarter finals in each of their last four campaigns and are favourites to get back there from this, because they have a huge cushion. PSG have only gone D2 L2 in their four previous Champions League away games at the Nou Camp, but they have never conceded more than three goals in any of those four trips there. They will be under a tremendous amount of pressure in this one and both teams to score in this one at Bet365 is a 1/2 price. PSG’s record in Spain is W4 D2 L6; overall against Spanish opposition it is W11 D7 L9. Can they hold the Catalans, who will attack in wave after wave most likely, at bay?

PSG have won five of their last eight away games in the Champions League (D1 L2). IN the first leg, everything just fell into place for them and they probably will have been surprised at how easy it turned out to be. Edinson Cavani has seven goals in seven Champions League games this season and he is a price of 5/4 in the Bet365 anytime goalscorer market for this one. PSG have won 12 of 16 European ties in which they won the first leg at home, including the last such tie – against Chelsea FC last season. Not too surprisingly, they have won all three ties in which they won the home first leg 4-0; collecting two wins and a draw and remaining unbeaten in those second legs. The French outfit are on a great run of form at the moment with a W14 D2 record in their last sixteen played across all competitions.

Barcelona v PSG Predictions

What kind of drama will turn up in this one. If Barcelona come out of the gates flying and get a couple of goals on the board, PSG will start to panic. But the Spaniards have to really throw the kitchen sink at this and therefore will likely be open at the back to counter attacks. So look for both teams so score in a home win for Barcelona but it won’t likely be enough for them to get through to the last eight. A two goal winning margin for them looks about right.
