Not had enough darts action to kick off the new year with? Well after the end of the PDC World Championship, the BDO World Darts Championship 2017 swings into town from the famous Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Surrey. The tournament is much shorter than the PDC version as it runs for just the week from January 7th through to the 15th. This year will see the tournament celebrate its 40th edition and it will be the 32nd time that it has been hosted at the Lakeside.

Unless You are an avid darts follower, there aren’t the household names on the BDO like there is in the PDC but this makes the tournament quite wide open and very competitive and as well as the men’s tournament going off here is a women’s BDO World Darts Championship 2017 running at the same time. So there is plenty of action to come and over the first round of action the tournament is the best of 5 sets, with the second round the best of 7, the quarter finals the best of 9, the semi finals the best of 11 and the final itself which is set to be played on January 15th being the best of 13 sets.

Top seed of the BDO World Darts Championship 2017 is Glen Durrant who was upset in last season’s quarter finals by Scott Waites, who went on to claim the title. So Durrant is going to be hankering to make a better first of things this time around and he is the top seed for the tournament and is running at a price of 15/8 with bookmaker Coral to claim the crown. He pretty much has been the man to beat this season having claimed nine ranking titles to make it the most successful year of his career.

Can Durrant land that elusive world title to his trophy cabinet? Two-time BDO World Champion Waites incidentally is trading at price of 12/1 to get his hands on the title for the third time while three-time world champion Martin Adams is out a price of 3/1. World number three Danny Noppert is a 6/1 shot and this is where the draw becomes interesting. Noppert and second seed Scott Mitchell occupy the bottom half so they would be the mainly opposing Durrant when it comes to the final showdown. Noppert and Mitchell would meet in the semi finals.

BDO World Darts Championship 2017

Durrant has been pretty much untouchable this season. While you have experienced hands of the likes of Scott Waites and Martin Adams knocking around the draw, this is an occasion where the favourite actually looks the firm favourite to land the title win. Durrant has been so dominant that it is going to take something special to knock him off his perch in this one. After such a successful year, rounding it off with his maiden world title has to be expected here.

We like the draw that Scott Mitchell has a little bit more than what would lie ahead for Danny Noppert, so there is a decent chance that the 2015 World Championship winner could come through his half of the draw. As for Noppert, while h has had a good season including a win at the Scottish Open, this is his first appearance at the BDO World Championships and that’s going to be a big ask for him to go and win the tournament on his debut and the presence of Waites in his quarter is probably going to be too tough for him to get through.

So when all’s said and done, if Durrant, with an easier quarter than he had last year in the draw, doesn’t get it done this time around, it will be a bit of a surprise at the Lakeside in the BDO World Darts Championship 2017 betting.
