On Grand National Day, honorary 41st runner Bradley Lowery, the terminally ill five-year-old appeared on the racecard of the most famous race in the country. Bradley, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2013, is a massive Sunderland fan and on the card he was up to ‘run’ in the red and white stripes of his beloved team, while, fittingly, being ‘trained’ by the Black Cats star striker, who Bradley idols, Jermain Defoe.

Spokesman Barry Orr commented today: “Everyone knows that the 40 runner Grand National is a complete lottery but one sure thing today is that Bradley’s fight against neuroblastoma, like any of the Grand National winners, will continue unabated regardless of the obstacles in his way”
