Well the Oscars on Sunday night left one big indelible moment on people’s memories. Forget all the winners on the night, the biggest moment came right at the end of the ceremonies when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced that the Best Picture Oscar had gone to “La La Land” after being handed the wrong envelope.
Red-faced officials ran on stage to correct the mistake in the middle of acceptance speeches by the La La Land crew, as the real winner “Moonlight” was announced. It was a massive screw up which took all of the shine off the win for “Moonlight” at the end of the day and it would have left punters who had backed La La Land to win, in a state of shock and devastation.
However, bookmaker Betfred have shown some Oscars generosity by paying out around £20,000 on punters who had backed La La Land for Best Picture.
Boss Fred Done said “I thought i was all part of the show. You couldn’t make it up.
“I felt for the films buffs who are Betfred customers who backed La La Land, which was the odds on favourite.
“I’m in a generous mood and in what will be music to the ears of La La fans they will be getting paid out, as well as those who were on Moonlight”.
