Teams will be forced to squeeze in a second set of fixtures over the Spring Bank Holiday to make up for the delayed start and the leading clubs will also face disruption in May when England play an international against Samoa in Sydney as part of their preparations for the World Cup at the end of the year.
Warrington Wolves look sure to be in the mix again after finishing up with the League Leaders’ Shield last year. Tony Smith’s team were runners-up in both the Grand Final and Challenge Cup final last year and will be looking to go one better in at least one of thiose in 2017. Wolves are a general 7/2 to win the Grand Final this season and have strengthened over the close season but their coach will be aware that nothing can be taken for granted.
Catalan Dragons remain something of an enigma but it’s surely only a matter of time before the French club makes a major impact in Super League and they can be backed at 25/1 to reach this year’s Grand Final. The Centurions are simply targeting survival in Super League after dropping just three points in the Championship and beating three of their four Super League opponents in the Super 8s Qualifiers. They’ve replaced relegated Hull KR but are under no illusions that they are going to find life much tougher this year.
