Cameroon v Brazil World Cup 2014, 23rd June Betting Preview

Well, it is Brazil with everything to play for in this one. There is still a chance that they could miss out on top spot, indeed if they lose against Cameroon and Mexico and Croatia draw their match. Brazil would be out of the competition if that happened. That’s not very likely to happen though, as the Selecao should put a poor quality Cameroon side to the sword in this one.

Cameroon v Brazil Betting Tips

Luiz Felipe Scolari’s men stumbled to a 0-0 draw against Mexico in their second group match, looking pretty average. They have the better chances to win the match, but were stopped by inspired Mexico keeper Guillermo Ochoa. The Brazilians need to get a good win on the board to get the crowd back on their side. The expectation on the shoulders of Brazil is immense. They really need to pull out a far better performance overall than they did against Mexico. After all, Croatia hammered Cameroon 4-0 and the hosts will be expected to at least match that.

Brazil have firepower in Neymar, Fred, Jo and Hulk and all of them are odds-on in the anytime goalscorer market against Cameroon. You have to go back to 1978 to find the last time that Brazil failed to win their World Cup group, which was incidentally, the last time that the tournament was held in South America. However, you would expect them to produce something here, especially with their long unbeaten stretch of form going. Brazil are unbeaten in their last eleven now, the draw against Mexico snapping a ten match winning streak from them.

Cameroon just look poor in quality throughout their entire side, and are not an offensive threat. They have failed to score in their two matches so far, losing their opener 1-0 against Mexico and then getting hammered 4-0 by Croatia, a result which knocked the Indomitable Lions out of the competition. Cameroon did actually win their last match against Brazil, which was back at the 2003 Confederations Cup, when Samuel Eto’o netted the winner. Over a decade on since that match, Eto’o is the shortest priced option for Cameroon in the anytime goalscorer market, but that is out at 4/1.

From their four previous meetings with Brazil, that win was the only one that Cameroon has posted, losing the other three without having scored a goal against the Selecao. Just to sum up Cameroon’s lack of offensive threat, they have had 30 shots at the World Cup 2014 so far, and only three of them have been on target. The only World Cup between them ended in a 3-0 victory for Brazil back in 1994. With Cameroon out, this is a game in which Brazil should really be looking to really impose themselves ahead of the knockouts.

Cameroon v Brazil Predictions

Should be fairly routine for Brazil, they really need a prove a point that they are still favourites for the title after that draw with Mexico. They have to prove that they can handle the pressure, because they looked a bit rattled. Would expect them to record a victory with a clean sheet in the game at 7/10.
