The bookmakers are going to get hit pretty hard if Leicester march their way to the Premier League title. Those punters who are savvy enough to throw a small stake on the Foxes at the start of the season when they were 5,000/1 to take the league title will be sitting pretty at the moment. But the Foxes haven’t quite gotten their hands on the title yet and can still be caught by Spurs.

Leicester are just three wins away but a punter at Sky Bet decided that they weren’t going to ride their luck all the way to the close of the season. They have cashed out their 5000/1 each way bet for a profit of over £100k.

The punter placed £20 each way on the Foxes to win the league title and with the cash out deal from online betting site Sky Bet, they are £108,703.41 richer for their bold punt, considering that Leicester only just survived a relegation battle last season.

Had the punter let the beat ride to the end of the season and Leicester did win the title, they would have collected over £133,000. However, if they had failed to take the league title and finished second or third the payout would have gone all the way down to £25,020 so that is where the risk and reward came in. The price of Leicester failing to win was greater than leaving the bet running to the end of the season and taking maximum payout.

“Backers of Leicester have faced a real head-scratcher over the last few weeks,” said Sky Bet’s Sandro Di Michele.

“All these 1-0 wins and even their 2-0 win at Sunderland have come with moments of genuine alarm and I must say bravo to this customer for seeing it through for so long.

“Presumably the punter was keen to make sure they won six figures for their small each-way play and now that it’s job done, they can relax and enjoy the rest of the season.”
