Western Ryder has potential to down bumper favourite

Cheltenham Festival

This is one of the flat races going off at Cheltenham Festival 2017 and it will provide a thrilling conclusion to Wednesday’s action from Prestbury Park. This bumper (which is a flat race ran under National Hunt racing rule) has lost it’s main ante post favourite, with Willie Mullins having to pull Getabird because of injury. But he still has stablemate Carter McKay running and he looks to be the one to beat for the renewal, having produced an unbeaten start to his National Hunt racing career.

He has landed two wins from two this season, beating a couple of his Champion Bumper rivals as well and the void left by Getabird being pulled, has firmly been filled in this one by Carter McKay. Western Ryder is closest to him in the Champion Bumper 2017 betting market and he is carrying some great form into Prestbury Park. He has been out four times this season, winning two of them and he took the Listed Neptune Bumper title at the back end of last year.

What indicates that he could go well at Cheltenham Festival 2017 is his second place to Daphne Du Clos at Newbury in his last outing. He gave up big weight to the winner (21 pounds) and still put in a fantastic run. Daphne Du Clos was expected to line up in this one and a very strong contender at that, but picked up an injury. So that just pulls Western Ryder to even more value for the Champion Bumper 2017.

The highest rated flat racer in the Champion Bumper 2017 field is Fayonagh and carded a massive 20 length win in a Fairyhouse Listed Bumper in her final warm up. That’s worth noting and may be worth backing in the each way market for this one. Cause Toujours has won this season in his first National Hunt contest, while Someday produced a notable run at Leopardstown in February.

Someday made an impact and beat out some notable challengers in a second place finish, a close one at that, to Cilaos Emery. With the defeats dished out to Bakmaj and West Coast Time by Western Ryder this season, that puts them on the backburner for this one. But overall it should be a highly competitive battle, and an exciting one to round of Day Two of the Cheltenham Festival 2017.

Champion Bumper 2017 Prediction

Carter McKay is going to take some stopping, hands down. This is a good runner, but there is the bigger and more tempting value sat on Western Ryder who has seen off some Champion Bumper contenders this season. At that 6/1 price, he has the credentials to land some value. Our each way punt for the Champion Bumper is Fayonagh.
