Christmas Day TV Ratings Odds – TV Betting

Bake Off's tearful farewell could be the Christmas Day winner

Novelty Betting & Other Events Betting

Mixed with a number of strong contenders, there are a few old favourites vying to be top of the Christmas TV Ratings on Christmas Day in the UK this year.

You would have to question, however, how many of the population have not seen those Festive tear-jerkers It’s A Wonderful Life and Love Actually at least twice. Both are available at 100/1 to attract most terrestrial viewers this Christmas. Home Alone, yet another very tired-looking offering, is the same odds. Singin In The Rain and The Wizard Of Oz are other films who get an airing regularly at this time of year and Harry Potter and the Chamber Of Secrets is not even the last of that franchise. The Lion King (a best 80/1) won’t be inspiring my household to abandon Christmas presents and the great outdoors in favour of an afternoon in front of ‘the box’. Newer releases The Artist and The Croods likewise and, let’s face it, anyone with kids or grandkids will have heard enough renditions of ‘Let It Go’ not to want to see the first screening on terrestrial TV of Frozen – the dear old BBC has rather missed the boat on that one!

The Queen still gets her 10 minutes every Christmas Day to wish all of her fractured kingdom and Commonwealth a Happy Christmas. But, at the end of a troubling 2016, I can’t imagine what she can say to put everyone’s minds at rest and there are fewer every year prepared to take the time out to listen. The UK Monarch’s speech is a general 16/1 to attract most viewers on Christmas Day (BBC showing only).

So who are the leading contenders?

If you’re having a miserable Christmas and want to see images of people having an even worse time, Albert Square is the obvious choice. Eastenders is 14/1 with Coral and it is BBC1 who appear to hold all the aces for those who don’t contribute to the Murdoch millions or watch their TV via a Firestick.

The classy drama Call The Midwife makes a one-off comeback with a twist promised. CTM is 11/1 with Coral who have the hugely popular Mrs Browns Boys at a best 7/2.

The favourite to top the Christmas Day TV Ratings is Strictly Come Dancing’s Christmas special at 2/1 but Stan James have the Great Christmas Bake Off at 4/1 and that surely represents more value.

This is the last chance that Bake Off fans are going to get to see Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood and Mel And Sue in the same kitchen – they are going their separate ways next year when Bake Off, and Mr Hollywood, move to Channel Four. It will be a strange atmosphere but a programme devotees won’t want to miss it – let’s hope the tears don’t spoil the meringue!
