England will face a stiff challenge out in Stockholm on Wednesday night as they take on Sweden in an international friendly. Roy Hodgson’s men go as underdogs for the match and have had five withdrawals from the initial squad name. England will go without Theo Walcott, Wayne Rooney, Jonjo Shelvey, Kyle Walker and Aaron Lennon have all been ruled out of action. Tottenham’s Jermain Defoe and Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will also miss the match as well. That has led to the call up of Championship side Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, a youngster who has been having an incredible season and has attracted a lot of attention. The other notable new player to arrive in the squad has been Everton’s midfielder Leon Osman.

England and Sweden have a close head to head, with the Three Lions taking seven wins to Sweden’s six. The last time they met competitively was in the group stage of Euro 2012, when England scraped out a 3-2 win in Kiev back in the summer. The last time they came together in Sweden was for a friendly in Gothenburg back in 2004 which was won 1-0 by the home side. Just as a little betting trend for England v Sweden betting, the last three international friendly matches between the two nations have gone under 2.5 goals. Sweden have won the last three on home soil against the English and always relish taking on the Three Lions, so an easy night is not expected, especially with Hodgson likely to field a side which is far from full strength.

England are sitting on top of their World Cup 2014 qualification group while Sweden are tracking behind Germany in Group C. It was the Swedes who pulled off a remarkable comeback recently against the Germans in a Brazil 2014 qualification game. From a position of being 4-0 behind, the Swedes miraculously rallied to earn themselves an unlikely point in a 4-4 draw.England’s last match ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw in Poland.

England v Sweden Betting Odds at Online bookmaker bet365
Sweden 6/4, England 9/5, Draw 9/4

Recommended Bet: It is unlikely to be a match which produces a lot of goals. England have managed just two goals in their last two matches against decent opposition, and the Swedes have a pretty organised defence and set up and won’t be broken down easily. If you still want to back England, a Draw No Bet for a price of Evens at online bookmaker Bet365 looks good.
