Everton v Oldham Betting Preview
Can the League one strugglers raise their game again against Merseyside opposition? After already having dumped Liverpool out of the FA Cup, they get a second bite of the cherry against Everton in midweek, as a late equaliser from Matt Smith gave the Latics a draw in the first attempt. With Everton dropping precious points in the Premier League race for a European spot on the weekend, the FA Cup may become even more important for them.

Everton v Oldham Recommended Bet:
The Toffees are firm favourites to go on and win this replay, however there is one surprising stat surrounding this. Everton have now not beaten Oldham in the last six FA Cup attempts (D3 L3). Not since way back in 1912 have Everton dumped Oldham out of the cup. The last time they met at Goodison Park in the FA Cup was back in the 2007/08 season, and the Latics went away with a 1-0 win. Did they miss their chance again the first meeting? The Toffees lost to a late goal against Norwich in the Premier League on the weekend, and that was their second league loss in a row so they are just struggling for form a little bit at the moment. The Toffees are actually without a win in their last four matches in all competitions now, and the late blow against Norwich really stunned them.

Quarter final spot against Man United awaits Boro or Chelsea
Middlesbrough v Chelsea Betting Odds, Preview and Predictions

However, you have to look at the class difference between the two sides and it looks likely that Everton will have far too much on the night. The Toffees are gunning for their 28th appearance in the quarter finals of the FA Cup, and only Spurs, Man United and Arsenal have been at the sixth round more times than Everton have. Yet they have only won three of their last seven home games in the tournament (drawing two and losing two). So will there be another upset on the cards for them? In two of the last five FA Cup seasons Everton have gone out to a lower tiered side (one of the occasions against Oldham.

Despite some poor form in League One, where they are hovering close to the drop zone, the Latics have been improving. They have won their last three in a row to help give themselves some space between them and the relegation zone. They won 1-0 at home against bottom side Portsmouth on the weekend to carry confidence forward to their trip to Goodison Park. The Latics are looking for only their third appearance in the FA Cup quarter finals.

Oldham have kept just one clean against teams from the top flight in the FA Cup (when they themsleves weren’t in the top flight themselves). That one clean sheet, the 1-0 win at Everton a few seasons ago. The last two away wins against top flight opposition in the FA Cup have both been at Goodison Park against Everton, so there is certainly some history there. Oldham actually had more shots on target than Everton when they met in the original tie, five compared to the visitors’ four. Matt Smith, who scored the late equaliser in that game has now netted three goal in his last two FA Cup appearances (all scored against Liverpool and Everton) so could be worth looking at as any Anytime Goalscorer in the match.

The League One side will be heavy underdogs and underdogs usually don’t get their way in replays away from home. Worth backing Everton, it could be a nervy tight match to start off with but it may be worth looking at a Draw/Everton half time/full time bet for a price of 3/1 at online bookmaker BetFred. The Toffees have only lost one of their 14 home games this season.
