Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix Betting Info
It is on to Hungary this weekend following dramatics races at the British and German Grands Prix. The race for the Drivers World Championship is still pretty wide open as it stands. Spain’s Fernando Alonso has a 34 point lead and will need to be reeled in pretty soon, but there is enough time left in the season for the chasing pack to catch up. We are at the famous Hungaroring for our F1 betting this week and the 2.27 mile course. The course gets quicker over the course of the weekend and the twisting and bumpy track doesn’t allow for too many overtaking possibilities

Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix Betting Defending Champion
It was British success here last season as Jenson Button in his McLaren took the chequered flag ahead of Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso. Those were the three on the podium at the German Grand Prix last weekend. Button hasn’t been on pace too much this season and is sitting down in seventh in the Formula 1 Drivers World Championship at the moment, a long way off the lead. So while the British driver looks highly unlikely to be challenging for the title this season, he at least is happy that improvements to his car has put him in with a chance of victories. Button has been struggling with the car and new tires which don’t suit his more conservative style of driving. But with major changes coming to the McLarens for the German Grand Prix, Button finally found the speed that he had been wanting and the driver now believes he is up there on a par with Red Bull and Ferrari. So the upgrades to the car seem to have upgraded Button’s confidence quite a bit. So good memories from last year on this track for Button and he is trading at 9/1 with online bookmaker BetFred to make it two in a row.

Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix Betting Favourite
Germany’s Sebastian Vettel is trading as the outright favourite, as he has been for most races. He is third in the standing, 44 points adrift of leader Alonso, but the double world champion is still in touch. He finished second at the German Grand Prix last weekend, but incurred a time penalty which pushed him down to third, promoting Jenson Button to second. How costly will that be? Vettel has had a much harder time this season, certainly not dominating the sport like he has done over the past couple of years. However, he still has the speed and will be hoping for a dry track at Hungary, which should give the Red Bulls the advantage of the Ferrari of Alonso. F1 has stuck some rule changes on Red Bull, after issues were raised in the last race about their engine settings, which according to some, circumvented the F1 rules. While they were cleared to race last week, the FIA stepped in to enforce a rule change which outlaws controversial engine settings (apparently Red Bull used lower torque, which could have been interpreted as extra traction control). Still, given a dry, clear track, Vettel could get into pole and take a pole to chequered flag victory. Vettel is 3/1 favourite at online bookmaker BetFred. This is a race which he has not won before.

Other Contenders
Fernando Alonso in his Ferrari has to be considered of course. He lead from start to finish at Hockenheim last week, and while he has become the first man to win three races in this open season, he may have been riding an advantage with the wet weather. It certainly helped his Ferrari in Germany last weekend, as they are not as quick as the Red Bulls on dry tracks. But he had gotten his car out in front and just about had enough to hold off his challengers. The Spaniard has looked pretty consistent this season and has probably defied expectations. IF the weather is dry and the McLarens have really upped their game, then he will be under more competitive pressure on the weekend. But he has landed two wins in the last three races, plus a second. In strong form. Alonso won here back in 2003.

Lewis Hamilton will have been happy enough knowing that he has a quicker car than he has probably had all season. That was the evidence of the German Grand Prix and the upgrades to the car, however, it wasn’t a great race because after picking up a puncture, he then ran into a big gearbox problem which crippled any chance that the had of winning his second German Grand Prix. Hamilton has a pretty good record at the Hungaroring, winning in 2007 and in 2009. So a good track record and it really should be a test to see if McLaren have picked up enough extra speed to challenge Red Bull and take a grip of the season. The British driver is 62 points back from leader Alonso, so desperately need to pick up a win and a change of fortunes.

Hungarian Grand Prix Pole Position Odds
Sebastian Vettel 9/4, Lewis Hamilton 7/2, Fernando Alonso 9/2, Mark Webber 9/1, Jenson Button 12/1

Best Outside Bet: Red Bull’s Mark Webber will take this spot. He had a disappointing run in Germany last week, he just wasn’t on the pace at all, which was surprising after his victory at the British Grand Prix. That is the thing about the Australian, he is a bit hit and miss. However, he did win the Hungary Grand Prix in 2010 and is second in the Drivers World Championship standings. That can’t be ignored.
