France v Germany World Cup 2014, 4th July Betting Preview

Both had to endure tough tasks against African opposition in the round of sixteen to set up this clash. Germany were almost out on their feet at the end of extra time against Algeria, while France beat Nigeria in 90 minutes. How much of a factor will that be come Friday, when the two European giants clash for the fourth time at the World Cup?

France v Germany Betting Tips

The winner of this one will move ahead to face either Brazil or Colombia in the finals and while Germany are running as favourites, France are offering some value. Didier Deschamps’ men looked very comfortable through the group stage, beating Honduras and Switzerland, while playing out a draw against Ecuador. That moved them on to face Nigeria in the round of sixteen and while they looked as if they were lacking an edge for about an hour, they had enough to step it up and produce a 2-0 win. France have creativity and power in the middle of the park, they are very solid and the back and have goal getters. They have everything to trouble the Germans here.

France have kept four clean sheets in their last five matches played now, so aren’t giving up much. Going forward, Karim Benzema is a 6/4 option in the anytime goalscorer market, with Olivier Giroud at 2/1. While France are behind in the head to head at World Cup meetings against Germany, losing two of the three played previously, they are in form against the Germans. In the last seven meetings, all of which having been friendly matches, France have posted a W5 D1 L1 record. Both of these do look good going forward and would tip towards over 2.5 goals.

Germany thumped Portugal 4-0 in their opening match, but they haven’t quite lived up to that performance since. Wins by a single goal margin over the USA and Algeria, along with a draw against Ghana has raised some issues. Keeper Manuel Neuer keeps them together at the back, but they are spaces in the back line to exploit. With all of the wasted chances in front of goal against Algeria, it highlighted the fact that they are missing a genuine number nine, with Thomas Muller, Andre Schurrle and Mario Gotze trying to fill in there.

In being pushed to extra time against Algeria, it has to have taken something out of the Germans you would think, ahead of Friday. Thomas Muller, who was guilty of wasting most of the good chances against Algeria,  is even money favorite in the anytime goalscorer market for them, and he looks to be involved in everything. Germany still play some great football and like to get wide, but against a pretty solid looking French defence, can they take the chances that fall their way? A win for Germany here would make them the first side ever to make it to four World Cup semi finals in a row.

France v Germany Predictions

There is value in France sneaking this one. Germany are the stronger of the two, but as shown in their last match, they are perhaps lacking a bite in front of goal. France are pretty solid at the back and should be fresher for this one. They could see this out, so Les Bleus are worth a punt.
