France v Romania Betting Tips

Will the French come exploding out of the blocks in the Euro 2016 opener? They would love to do so of course, but this may be a tricker evening for them than it may first appear to be. France look a quality side at the moment, but they face a very defensively sound side in Romania. France have scored at least two goals in each of their last nine matches played, all of them friendly internationals of course with them not having to quality for the Finals as hosts. They have fired off at least three goals in each of their last four games as well. But this is a competitive match, expectation on their shoulders is high and it may not be a big victory that most of the Parisian crowd will be hoping for. France are on top of their game without question, having beaten the likes of Germany, Russia and Holland in their preparations and they have won nine of their last ten games played as well. Big night for them, can they deliver?

France haven’t lost any of their last ten games played against Romania, however that doesn’t quite tell the whole story. Four of the last five fixtures between these two have been drawn. The last time that France ran into Romania was in Euro 2012 qualifying and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. France do have an abundance of attacking talent here with Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann as 11/10 joint favourites in the anytime goalscorer market for the game, and then Andre-Pierre Gignac and Anthony Martial at 6/4. But they may well have to be patient in this one and under Under 2.5 goals in the game may well be worth considering at a price of 3/4. You have to consider the occasion, they expectancy and what kind of defence that the French will be going up against in this one.

It may have gone a little bit unnoticed by Romania did qualify for Euro 2016 without losing a game during qualifying. They went W5 D5 L0 in their campaign, finishing behind the surprise package of Northern Ireland. Across their ten qualifying games, Romania conceded only the two goals, but of course, you have to look at the opposition that they were up against in a group that didn’t boast a lot of scoring power. Going forward, they scored only 11 goals in their ten qualification games. It is the resilience of Romania and their solid defensive set up that will carry them. They have suffered just the one defeat in their last ten games (a 3-4 international friendly loss against the Ukraine in May ) and during that ten game sequence they have earned a draw against both Spain and Italy. The thing about Romania is that they aren’t likely to pose a big attacking threat in the game, but they would be over the moon with taking a point away from this in Paris against the hosts on opening night.

France v Romania Predictions

It is probably going to be worth erring on the side of caution in this one. France have a lot to live up to in this game as the crowd will be expecting them to be putting on a show. But Romania are a decent defensive side and can well dig in until half time and it’s worth looking at the draw/France half time/full time punt here. France unquestionably are the better side, but the longer the game goes on until their first breakthrough, the nervier they will get. France to win by a one goal margin.
