Germany v Algeria World Cup 2014, 30th June Betting Preview

There won’t have been many who had predicted that Algeria would have made it out of Group H behind Belgium. Their progress came at the expense of Russia, and the African nation have showed some fantastic spirit and grit so far. Will it be enough to carry through to pull off a shock against Germany though?

Germany v Algeria Betting Tips

Algeria battled their way to a deserved 1-1 draw against Russia in their final group match, that being enough to send them through to the second stage of the World Cup for the first time in their history. They are the sixth African side ever to make it out of the group stage. They opened with a nervous defeat against Belgium, in which they offered little as an attacking unit. But then they just threw off the shackles and thumped South Korea 4-2, before taking that precious point against Russia to book progress. They have been pretty brave, just having a go at things since that opening defeat. They have netted six goals so far in Brazil and they have come from five different players.

But opposition doesn’t come much tougher than Germany, but Algeria have won their last two meetings against the Germans, scoring four and conceding just the one. That was that famous shock win for them over Germany in the group stage of the 1982 World Cup. That was the year that Algeria kicked up a storm of match fixing, because German went on to play out a mutually beneficial 1-0 win over Austria in their final group match, the exact result which ensured that the two European nations went through at the expense of the Algerians. That incident prompted FIFA to play the final group matches at the World Cup at the same time ever since.

That win over Germany was Algeria’s only victory over European opposition at the World Cup, drawing three and losing four since then. Germany have looked just their usual class outfit, beating the USA and Portugal in the group, while taking a draw against Ghana. They have goals in them, with a huge influence from Thomas Muller, who has scored nine goals in his last nine World Cup appearances. A phenomenal strike rate and he is 5/6 favourite in the anytime goalscorer market. Miroslav Klose needs just one more goal to be the highest scorer in the history of the competition. They are red hot favourites to progress here and take another step towards becoming the first ever side to make it to four consecutive World Cup semi finals. Germany are unbeaten in 2014, winning four and drawing seven, with clean sheets in four of those matches.

Germany v Algeria Predictions

Routine for Germany this should be at the end of the day. Algeria will likely have had their moment in the sun in just getting out of the group stage. Big gulf in class between the two sides, although Algeria look pretty scrappy. Germany will dictate possession and not unrealistic to expect them to win to nil at 6/5
