That was the year that Algeria kicked up a storm of match fixing, because German went on to play out a mutually beneficial 1-0 win over Austria in their final group match, the exact result which ensured that the two European nations went through at the expense of the Algerians. That incident prompted FIFA to play the final group matches at the World Cup at the same time ever since.
That win over Germany was Algeria’s only victory over European opposition at the World Cup, drawing three and losing four since then. Germany have looked just their usual class outfit, beating the USA and Portugal in the group, while taking a draw against Ghana. They have goals in them, with a huge influence from Thomas Muller, who has scored nine goals in his last nine World Cup appearances. A phenomenal strike rate and he is 5/6 favourite in the anytime goalscorer market. Miroslav Klose needs just one more goal to be the highest scorer in the history of the competition. They are red hot favourites to progress here and take another step towards becoming the first ever side to make it to four consecutive World Cup semi finals. Germany are unbeaten in 2014, winning four and drawing seven, with clean sheets in four of those matches.
