The tussle for the 2014 Formula 1 Drivers’ World Championship heads to Italy this weekend, and Lewis Hamilton is running a 8/11 favourite to take the win. The British driver has fallen 29 points behind Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg in the World Championship standings, so needs a bit of a bounce back performance.

8/11 for Hamilton Italian GP win

Hamilton has failed to land a win in any of his last three outings, taking third place finishes in Germany and Hungary, while failing to finish at the Belgian Grand Prix. With Rosberg also managing just the one win in the last four races, the slight dip in performance and reliability from the Mercedes team has started to let Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo into the title race.

The Australian, with back to back wins at Hungary and Belgium has pulled within 35 points of second placed Hamilton. He is the man on the up and should be great value for a podium finish at Monza for a price of 6/4 with Bet365. The other outsider behind the two Mercedes drivers who is going well, is Williams’ Valtteri Bottas, a 6/4 shot to get himself into the top three in Italy.

So suddenly the season is getting a little more interesting after the procession of wins through the first half of the season by Hamilton and Rosberg. The two have been threatened by their team that one will be dropped if they can’t race together cleanly. This was after Rosberg admitted deliberately hitting Hamilton at Spa, which forced the British driver out of the race.

Out of the drivers who are the front of the running for the 2014 Italian Grand Prix betting, it is only Hamilton who has tasted victory at Monza before. He won it back in 2012. Three time winner and defending champion Sebastian Vettel has big history at the track is a a 5/2 shot to muscle his way onto the podium.
