Ireland trimmed for Six Nations success after England’s struggles against Azzurri

Irish trimmed to pip England to title

Rugby Betting

There is a two week break now before the return of the RBS Six Nations 2017 and after arguably one of the strangest games ever, with Italy playing a loophole tactic against England at Twickenham, which promoted Red Rose coach Eddie Jones to say “You haven’t seen a game of rugby,” England are top of the table still. However, waiting ahead for them is the in-form Scots at Twickenham in a fortnight before what could potentially be a title deciding showdown in Dublin against Ireland.

England finally figured out how to deal with the Azzurri’s methods in the game, but still it was struggling and stuttering performance from the Red Rose which has seen them drift a little bit to 4/9 in the Six Nations Championship betting at Ladbrokes. Their narrow wins over France and Wales have been tense affair and they aren’t looking as powerful or fluent as they were last season in the Championships. Italy decided not to throw anyone beyond the initial tackler into a ruck, therefore no offside rules became relevant, which meant that Italy could stand on England’s side of the ball legally.

England did stretch out to score five tries in the second half to record a 36-15 but they were flummoxed into being 10-5 behind at the break and players putting in a really disappointing shift, even amidst all of the strange goings-on. Simply put, England didn’t adapt very well to the challenge that was in front of them and against better sides, if that creeps into their game, then they are going to struggle.

But it was England’s 17th consecutive win and they need one more, against Scotland at Twickenham to equal New Zealand’s record run of wins. So Italy ruffled England’s feathers and with Scotland turning in wins over Wales and Ireland already in the Championship, punters are becoming a little less assured about England’s chances of not only defending their Six nations title, but landing another Grand Slam as well.

Scotland put 20 unanswered points on the board against Wales at Murrayfield in a stunning second half performance for their second win of the championship, so the battle for the Calcutta Cup should be an epic one. Before that clash though, Ireland will face off against Wales on Friday night under the lights in Cardiff. If Ireland win that, they will put pressure on England by taking top spot, even if they don’t collect a bonus point.

Prior to the weekend, Ireland were 5/1 to win the Six Nations, but have been trimmed into 5/2 by Ladbrokes and they know that if they win their final two games, the Championship is theirs. There is going to be a massive end to the Six Nations season.
