The shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year was announced this week and it hasn’t changed Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante favouritism in the market. The consistent midfield man who was a rock for Leicester last season on their title success and who is doing the same superb job for Champions-elect Chelsea this season looks to be a bit of a lock for the PFA Player of the Year title at a quote of 1/8 with online betting site Ladbrokes.

Joining him on the shortlist is his team mate Eden Hazard who has taken his game to a whole new level this season. He has been given the freedom to express his special talent and he has been flourishing for it, but critics think that it is only because of the support of Kante in the team that Hazard has been able to step up his game. That’s a little unfair because he has produced some stunning individual performances for the club this season.

The other four slots on the shortlist are made up of strikers, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez filling out the posts. Sanchez has gone off the boil the longer the season has gone on and the worse Arsenal’s form has gotten and Harry Kane’s injuries have scuppered what could have been an even better season for him. Zlatan has continued to defy age and produce on the top level and out of them, Lukaku, with his tremendous scoring output which has put him in with a chance of landing the Golden Boot would be a favourite dark horse.

In the PFA Young Player of the Year award, outright favourite is Tottenham’s Dele Alli at 1/8 and it’s a surprise that he wasn’t up for the main award really. Lukaku is a 6/1 short in the market with Harry Kane out at 10/1. Each PGA member/player votes for two players and then the votes are tallied up. The support that Kante continues to get from plaudits suggests that he is a shoe-in for the title, but Eden Hazard is likely to push him close in a 1-2 for Chelsea.
