Kell Brook v Errol Spence Boxing Betting Preview & Odds 27th May, 2017

Fight to go the distance in Sheffield?

Sports Betting

Kell Brook steps back into the ring for the first time after having had his broken eye socket fixed. Brook was beaten for the first time in his career last September by Gennady Golovkin at middleweight, but the fighter has made a point to stress that there isn’t going to be any apprehension about fighting after his injury.

Brook has had titanium put in eye socket as part of the repair, which involved surgeons taking out his eye itself to fix behind it. So now, because of the titanium, he has been likening himself to the “Terminator” and he drops down to a more comfortable weight for this fight against Spence. Brook had gone up two weights to go up against Golovkin, where he had the towel thrown in for him in the fifth round.

This is the fourth defence of his welterweight belt though and for his opponent Spence, he is going up in his first world-title fight. Spence was a hot ticket at the 2012 Olympics but fell well short of expectations, but he is going as favorite in this bout with Kell, even though he will be battling the partisan crowd as well up in Sheffield. The undefeated 27 year old has been drawing a lot of attention with his recent wins.

Spence is something of a young lion still in the sport and the American has faced far stiffer opposition in his last six bouts collectively than what Brooke has gone up against at the weight. So is that enough to give the American the edge? Well some are questioning Brooks’ big decision to step up so much in weight to go against Golovkin, a much bigger man naturally. Did the Sheffield fighter lose something in that match?

Brook is vastly more experienced than Spense is, having boxed 184 rounds professionally whereas Spence has boxed just the 21. Spence has 18 knockouts in his 21 professional fight. They are about the same in height give half an inch but the American has a reach which is three inches longer. However, with that having been said, Spence likes to box on the inside, working the body, while Brooke is probably going to be the one who does the more damage with the jab.

Kell Brook v Errol Spence Betting Odds

Errol Spence Jr 8/15, Kell Brook 13/8

Predictions: Spence can do a lot of damage to Brook with body shots and Brook has lost a lot of weight which will work against him in that regards. But this could be a real slog, a real war between these two and it could well go the distance. Both fighters to be knocked down at 7/1 has to have some appeal in this even contest. Spence will bring the hunger and bite to what will be a hostile arena for him at the end of the day, Brook isn’t bad value to stick the distance, because he has a strong chin and as long as he can protect his body, a Kell Brook by Decision or Technical Decision at 7/2 looks some value.
