Leicester v FC Porto Betting Preview – UEFA Champions League 27th September

Can the Foxes make it six points from six as they go into battle with FC Porto on Tuesday night on Match Day Two of the UEFA Champions League. The Foxes shook off some poor domestic form with a victory out at Club Brugge’s on Match Day One and now they host their strongest challengers in the group. However, the Portuguese haven’t won any of their previous 16 trips to England, so the Foxes go into this one as favourites to take the three points and take some early control of the group as well. Big opportunity for Claudio Ranieri’s men here.

Leicester v FC Porto Betting Tips

So Leicester will get their first ever UEFA Champions League home fixture under their belt on Tuesday night. Will it end on a positive? They banked a fantastic 3-0 win at Club Brugge on Match Day One to get themselves going, so they can earn some big momentum in the group with a win over FC Porto this week. This will be their first ever match against FC Porto and indeed, their first ever match up against a Portuguese side. So the Foxes go into this one heading up Group G in the UEFA Champions League after their impressively racked up a win in Belgium a fortnight ago. The last time that Leicester were in home action in Europe was all the way back in the 2000/01 UEFA Cup in 2000 when they played out a 1-1 draw with FK Crvena Zvezda. It is not likely to be a game which sticks in the mind. That fixture was then at Filbert Street where their overall European record was W1 D2 L1.

So the King Power will see its first European action on Tuesday evening and in beating Club Brugge on Match Day One, Leicester became just the third even English side to win their debut match in the UEFA Champions League, after Manchester United and Newcastle. In that game, their first shot on target in the competition yielded a goal and in the anytime goalscorer market for this fixture you have Jamie Vardy at 9/2 with Islam Slimani at 5/1. Riyad Mahrez, who fired home a brilliant free kick against Club Brugge is a 13/2 poke to net again. The home domestic of the English champions hasn’t been stable, but their performance in Europe last time out was very good. They aren’t particularly tight at the back so both both teams to score in this one may have appeal at a price of 4/5. You have a quote of 43/40 on the game going over 2.5 goals.

Whereas Leicester have never faced a Portuguese side because, FC Porto on the other hand have had plenty of experience against English opposition. But they haven’t enjoyed visits to England though. This will their 17th European fixture in England and they are still on the hunt for their first ever competitive win there. They were a little disappointing in their Champions League opener this season with a 1-1 home draw only against FC Copenhagen, so Leicester shouldn’t have too much to fear here. Porto hold a shocking W0 D2 L14 record in England and they have lost and failed to score in each of their last four visits to England as well. They were in the Group Stage alongside Chelsea last season and they lost 2-0 in London. Striker Andre Silva has been in a good bit of form for them this season and he is running at a price of 12/5 in the anytime goalscorer market for this one.

So that is a three match winless streak in Europe that FC Porto are on right now (Champions League) with a D1 L2 record posted. That is actually a very big decline for the Portuguese outfit, because prior to that they had lost just one of fourteen played in the competition (W9 D4 L1). Their away form isn’t all that bad though with a W3 D3 L2 record in their last eight out on the road in the UEFA Champions League. But you can’t ignore their really poor record in England itself. Interesting in their last 10 UEFA Champions League games against English sides, FC Porto have either scored twice or have failed to score at all. They aren’t particularly defensively sound and they have conceded a total of 11 goal in their last three visits to England alone, without getting on the scoresheet themselves. In fact, none of their previous 16 visits to England has seen them take a clean sheet.

Leicester v FC Porto Predictions

FC Porto won’t be looking forward to another trip to England you would imagine, given their record there. Leicester haven’t been good enough on the domestic front, with their defence being torn apart time and time again. But Ranieri got it right in Europe two weeks ago and with this being such an emotionally charged night on their Champions League home debut, back the Foxes to come through this and put another win on the board. Leicester to win and both teams to score.
