Liverpool V Anzhi Europa League
A big clash at the top of Group A in the Europa League here for Liverpool. They lead the way by two points ahead of Anzhi and Udinese. A win would put them in a strong position and they will take some confidence to Russia after being Anzhi 1-0 at Anfield. However, Liverpool’s European form may see them have an uphill struggle to come away with what could be a precious point.

Liverpool v Anzhi Europa League Betting Odds at online bookmaker Bet365:
Anzhi 17/20, Draw 13/5, Liverpool 3/1

Verdict:
It has been a strange Europa League campaign for Liverpool, who have been scoring goals, something they haven’t been doing much of on a domestic front. The Reds have won two and lost one so far as we reach Match Day Four, their only other away match so far producing a crazy 5-3 win over Switzerland’s Young Boys. One goal was enough to beat Anzhi in the game at Anfield and it was just about deserved, although it took a special strike from Stewart Downing to break the deadlock. As with most of Liverpool’s season, their play has been quite enterprising, however they have lacked any forward quality aside from Luis Suarez. The reverse fixture for the Reds is likely to be a much harder affair and see them on the back foot more. The deep pocketed Russians really need to rattle off a win to keep their own qualification ups and therefore will probably attack Liverpool quite hard. Anzhi have won all four of their last home games in Europe without conceding an away goal. You can stack that up against Liverpool winning all three of their European away matches this season and suggests it could be tight. The impetus has to be more with the home side though and an Anzhi Makhachkala -0.75 Asian Handicap for a price of 41/40 at online bookmaker Bet365 looks a good deal.

Liverpool v Anzhi Betting Preview:
Tough night ahead for Liverpool as they juggle another European venture. Despite looking shaky this season and finding wins hard to come by on the domestic scene, they are in decent shape in the Europa League. A win here should see them progress comfortably, a defeat will put them back under some pressure. Away from home in Europe they have lost two of their last 14, but they have lost two in their last five. Reading into their away form more, Liverpool have managed just one victory in their last nine European fixtures outside of Anfield, drawing four and losing four. So they aren’t shaping up well to back confidently for a win here, although a draw may not be a bad option. Since beating Anzhi at Anfield, Liverpool have failed to pick up a win in any of their three matches in all competitions since. Liverpool have never lost a UEFA Cup or UEFA Europa League group stage fixture on the road.

Liverpool have a W2 D0 L1 record in Russia. Anzhi’s 1-0 defeat at Anfield was their first away from home in UEFA club competition and actually only their second loss in an away European game. The deep-pocketed Russians have won their last four European home games without conceding a goal, so will be a force to be reckoned with. However, the Russians have won just three of their last nine home games against English opponents, losing five and drawing one.
