Liverpool v Tottenham Betting Preview – EFL Cup 25th October

With Tottenham battling along in the UEFA Champions League, it’s not too likely that they are going to have as much interest in this as Liverpool are. The Reds look hungrier for the piece of silverware that is up for grabs in the EFL Cup and they are running as favourites for this one at Anfield. This is the big showdown of Tuesday night in the competition and the Lilywhites may have their work cut out for them. They have just been lacking their clinical edge over the last week with three drawn games across all competitions. Will the Reds, who are likely to field a strong side, go marching on?

Liverpool v Tottenham Betting Tips

The Reds are going to be favourites to claim the win in this EFL Cup tie. They are likely to make less changes to the starting eleven for this one than Spurs are. Remember that Liverpool have no European distractions this season and therefore can have a great run at the cup here. So there is bound to be more interest for the Reds here than there is for the Lilywhites. On top of that, this will be the fourth away game in a row that the Lilywhites will have played recently so they have been out and about while Liverpool have been hanging around at home all that while. Spurs are likely to shuffle their pack here too because of needing to give their regular starters a break, so that will just add weight to Liverpool’s cause. These two have already squared off this season with a 1-1 draw played out at Anfield in the Premier League, but that snapped a three match winning streak at home that Liverpool were on against the Lilywhites.

Also favouring Liverpool is the fact that Spurs are struggling for goals at the moment and a bold punt on a Liverpool to win to nil wager will return a price of 15/8. Because of the changes to the respective starting elevens, there is a price of 11/10 on under 2.5 goals. Liverpool have Daniel Sturridge at 5/4 and Danny Ings, who could well get a run out, at a 7/5 quote in the anytime goalscorer market for this one. Liverpool are in great form at the moment having posted a W5 D1 record over their last six in all competitions and in the last round of the EFL cup they banked a 3-0 away win at Derby. There have been low scoring affairs between Liverpool and Spurs recently, the last two have ended in a 1-1 draw and you could have a crack at that over 90 minutes in the Correct Score market for a price of 13/2. That’s three consecutive drawn matches that Liverpool and Tottenham have played out now and just four goals in total have been scored in the last three clashes.

As mentioned before, Spurs have been struggling for goals recently and they don’t appear to really have the depth to cover up for the loss of Harry Kane. They played out a 0-0 draw at Bournemouth on the weekend in the Premier League which was another hugely frustrating game for them. Spurs have now only netted the three goals in their last five games across all competitions so they aren’t quite clicking and they aren’t being ruthless enough. So with three drawn matches on the bounce across all competitions (all away games), will Spurs have enough to carve out a win at Anfield? Tottenham have bigger interests in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League of course, so the EFL Cup could be sacrificed. Tottenham have failed to win any of their last five games at Anfield in all competitions with a D2 L3 record, so they won’t totally be trusted here. The game is probably going to be tight, because Spurs are organised at the back, so there could be value on a draw/Liverpool half time/full punt in this one.

Liverpool v Tottenham Predictions

There is a tempting shot at the game being a tight, low scoring affair here, so go under 2.5 goals, which is a trend from recent meetings. Liverpool will have more aces on their bench to call on that Spurs will so the Reds are the more capable of the two in pulling out a victory in this one. Spurs will have their eyes on other prizes and will be resting up key players. Look for the draw/Liverpool half time/full time punt.
