Manchester United v Liverpool Betting Preview – Premier League 15th January 4.00pm

Here it is then the big showdown of the Premier League weekend and there is going to be no love lost between the bitter rivals out on the Old Trafford pitch. Liverpool roll into town looking for a rare Premier League win at Old Trafford and the three points that would keep them in touch with league leaders Chelsea. But this may not be the greatest of times to be running into Manchester United at the moment as Mourinho’s men are rolling along in some fantastic form at the moment with six wins in their last six league outings. Can Liverpool raise their game enough to bag a massive three points for themselves in the title hunt? It’s a wonderful set up and hopefully a wonderful spectacle to follow.

Manchester United v Liverpool Betting Tips

Hopefully this one lives up to its billing. The first meeting this season didn’t as United just went to Anfield last October and parked the bus to play for a draw. They got it. Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed the midweek EFL Cup action against Hull and it would be a blow for United if he really is injured. Zlatan has five goals in his last five Premier League games but it is more than likely he was just held back from the midweek action for this one. He has been in great scoring form and no-one else is really pulling their weight for the club up front. Ibrahimovic is a 5/4 anytime goalscorer option for this one and Wayne Rooney is 7/4. Rooney only needs now just the one more goal to be the top scorer in United’s club history and the former Everton star would probably enjoy it if was to come against Liverpool.

Manchester United hold strong head to head form against the Reds and they have gone W11 L3 record in their last fourteen at Old Trafford against Liverpool in the Premier League. This will be the 50th meeting in the Premier League between United and Liverpool and the Red Devils hold a commanding lead from the previous fixture with a W27 D9 L13 record. When the two did meet at Anfield earlier this season, Liverpool dominated with the ball taking 65% possession in the game, but United will be pressing harder as an attacking force at the moment. They are certainly looking more confident than they were back then and they are on a six match winning streak currently in the Premier League. They are unbeaten in their last eight home games and actually have won their last nine games in all competitions. Only once before in the top flight have both fixtures in a season between these two ended goal less. Both teams to score with Paddy Power is a quote of 8/11.

Liverpool could really use the three points in this one to try and keep touch with leaders Chelsea. Liverpool dropped two big points in their last Premier League game, getting held to a 2-2 draw at Sunderland after the turn of the new year. That’s back to back games now that Liverpool have failed to score in (a 0-0 FA Cup draw with Plymouth and a 1-0 EFL Cup loss against Southampton) but everyone knows that they harbour a powerful attack. They were awful in midweek at Southampton, it has to be said and Klopp will have put a rocket up them. That game saw a return from Philippe Coutinho which was one positive from the defeat. Liverpool have gone W6 D3 L2 away from Anfield in the Premier League this season and they have lost just of their last nine on the road. Two of their last three away games have been won and both wins there were with clean sheets. Liverpool have taken three clean sheets in their last five league games including that 1-0 win over Man City at the end of last year.

The Reds are the Premier League top goalscorers this season and they have managed to average exactly two goals per game out on the road this term. Just twice this season away from home have they been behind at the break away from home so a half time draw option with Paddy Power is probably going to be a decent option. The Reds however, have only picked up just the three clean sheets out on the road this season. A 1-1 correct score at Paddy is trading at a price of 11/2 and the shortest priced option out there on the game. Daniel Sturridge is their shortest priced option in the anytime goalscorer market at 8/5. They will miss Sadio Mane who has nine league goals this season who is at the AFCON 2017 with Senegal. Liverpool have lost more Premier League matches (27) and also the most overall league matches (67) against Manchester United than versus any other opponent.

Manchester United v Liverpool Predictions

A game of high importance and the two are likely to cancel each other out again. Liverpool boast the better attack, but United have been tacking along pretty methodically lately. The best way to look at this is that neither of them really look like losing the game, so it is worth going for the draw in the match outright. The 1-1 correct score has some massive appeal for it ending in parity.
