Some great action to come from Goodison Park on Monday night with the Merseyside derby, the first of the new Premier League season. Liverpool go into the game defending an 11 match unbeaten streak against their rivals in the league. The Reds will want to keep that intact but will be hoping that their powerful attack can drive them to three points which would see them cut the distance to league leaders down to six points. So the pressure is on the Reds in this one having seen both Chelsea and Manchester City claim maximum points over the weekend. Can they deliver?

Everton v Liverpool Betting Odds

Liverpool 10/11, Draw 27/10, Everton 10/3

Six of the last eight Merseyside derby matches have ended in a draw and that will likely have big appeal for punters this time around too. You have Everton who have remained unbeaten at home this season in the Premier league taking on their rivals Liverpool, who certainly know how to stick the ball in the back of the net, but who also carry a defence which isn’t overly reliable. So there is an evenly matched game for Monday night’s Merseyside derby on the cards and this will be the seventh time that there has been a Premier League clash between these two on a Monday.

From those previous Monday Premier League match ups, Liverpool have posted a W3 D2 L1 record. The head to head form is running with Liverpool in this one as they have remained unbeaten in their last eleven against the Toffees. However, you have to note all of the seven drawn matches in that sequence, that can’t go unnoticed for this one. Liverpool have posted a W4 D2 L2 record away from home this season but have lost just one of their last seven. They continue to score freely and have netted eight goals in their last three league games, even though they have only produced a W1 D1 L1 record in that sequence.

So Liverpool do have the goals in them and they took a 3-0 win at Middlesbrough in midweek to set themselves up for this road trip across the city. In three of their last four away games, Liverpool have netted a least three goals. So you are looking at a game which has a price of 7/10 with Bet365 to produce over 2.5 goals. It looks likely because Liverpool aren’t the most reliable side at the back, and we have seen costly examples of that lately, but they carry a massive attacking threat and for them, Divock Origi is in great form with a goal in each of Liverpool’s last five games (all competitions).

Everton’s inconsistent season has seen them struggle and fall away from any potential title challenge that they could have mustered up. But that having been said, no-one has gotten the better of them at Goodison Park this season in the top flight. They have gone W4 D4 on home soil in their eight league games. They took an important 2-1 win over the title-challenging Arsenal in the week and that will have lifted their spirits. They still don’t look a complete unit, but as long as they can scrape out results like that at home, it is something to build on.

They will be leaning heavily on Romelu Lukaku producing some and he is 2/1 at Bet365 in the anytime goalscorer market. The striker has had a great season and only Alexis Sanchez and Diego Costa have been involved in more Premier League goals than he has this term. With so many draws between these in recent meetings a repeat of the 1-1 scoreline from this fixture last season is trading at a price of 13/2 with Bet356. Everton have struggled to get the better of Liverpool, having beaten their city rivals just once in their last 19 games against them (October 20210 at Goodison Park). But they have decent home form this season and they have claimed 11 points in the Premier League this season from losing positions, which is the highest tally of any side so far. Can they land a rare win over the Reds?
