Newcastle v Reading Betting Preview
A massive clash near the bottom of the league here as the pressure mounts on Magpies boss Alan Pardew. Newcastle have had a terrible slide towards the relegation zone and anything less than a win against Reading would leave them in a real scrap for survival. The Royals, sitting second from bottom in the league start five points back of Newcastle and so a win would be absolutely massive for them. However, the Royals haven’t won away from home this season but this would be a great time for them to start.

Newcastle v Reading Recommended Bet:
The Magpies are slumping badly, make no mistake about that. Nine defeats in their last nine matches does not paint a pretty picture for Alan Pardew’s men. The sale of Demba Ba to Chelsea is probably not going to help matters either. Low on confidence, this is a high pressure match for Newcastle who are without a win in their last four league matches (losing three). Their last game saw them earn a point at Norwich, leaving them too without a win on the road this term. So tough times for Newcastle and they could only manage a draw at the Madejski when the two sides met earlier in the season. Defensively Newcastle are struggling badly, conceding thirteen goals in their last four matches, up front they have been badly lacking too.

Will QPR win again in 2013?

For a little positive, Newcastle are unbeaten against the bottom four this season, winning two and drawing two this season. At St James’ Park this season, Newcastle have taken five wins, one draw and five defeats. Again, while they haven’t been that defensively sound, they haven’t scored anywhere near enough goals this season to get themselves out of situations. Newcastle have managed just 13 home goals in 11 matches this season and they have conceded 14. Their rate of conceding isn’t that bad, they just haven’t scored enough. 63% of all Newcastle’s goals this season have come in the second half of matches. With Ba’s departure, is leaves the club top scores as Papiss Cisse with just four. Recent home form has seen the Magpies go on a trend of win, loss, win, loss, so following that they are due a win.

Reading pulled off a remarkable result last weekend at home against West Brom. Trailing 2-0 to the Baggies with ten minutes to go, the Royals suddenly rattled off three goals to take an unlikely win. That was massive in their struggle against relegation, and if they win this, then there is a chance of them getting out of the drop zone this weekend on goal difference. It would also help in dragging the Magpies into the relegation scrap. Reading aren’t in bad form of late actually, losing just one of the last four. However that defeat came in their only away match in that sequence as they took seven points from their recent three home matches. The result in this one, even though Newcastle are low in confidence, is Reading’s away form.

The Royals have terrible, terrible away form. They have lost six on the bounce and have failed to score in four of those matches. It’s not as if they aren’t acquitting themselves well, they just haven’t got the quality in their ranks. They have fight though. Reading have scored just eight away goals this season at a rate of 0.7 per game and have conceded at a rate of almost two per game. Reading have allowed more shots against them than any other side this term. A worrying trend is that they haven’t won any of their eighth Premier League matches against teams in the bottom nine this season. Their record at Newcastle is poor on top, losing all seven away matches against the Magpies in all competitions. They have also lost 3-0 on their last two visits there.

As poor as Newcastle have been, they should be worth backing to edge this. A Draw/Newcastle Half Time/Full Time bet is trading at 7/2 with online bookmaker Sportingbet.
