Managerial change to come for Royals?

With Reading boss Brian McDermott trading as firm favourite to be the next Premier League manager out of a job, the next Reading manager betting market is hotting up. Already installed as front runner to become the next Reading boss, is former Chelsea and West Brom boss Roberto di Matteo. The Italian is out of work at the moment following him getting pushed out of Stamford Bridge and he looks like the leading option for the Royals. Of course, this is not the same as say Manchester City looking for a new manager, the options which are going to be available for Reading are somewhat limited in terms of attracting a top name.

Di Matteo hasn’t really got the experience of managing a club through a desperate relegation battle, but Reading are a side in need of something new. The Royals have slumped to six straight defeats, which could easily turn into seven as they head to Man City on the weekend. It looks as if McDermott’s time could come to an end pretty soon at the club, and Roberto Di Matteo seems to the man that the bookies are expecting to fill in the role at the club. The nearest challenger in the market is John Hughes at a price of 6/1, but only recently became the manager of Hartlepool after only taking a job at Scottish side Livingston back in January. But with Hartlepool rock bottom of League One with just one win for the season, he would probably jump at the chance to have a crack at the Premier League club.

Are there any big names in the race in the next Reading manager betting? Yes, but they all seem unlikely. Guus Hiddink and Laurent Black are both 14/1 shots, with Steve Coppell back at 16/1. The best looking long shot could be Avram Grant who is being offered at a quote of 20/1 by online bookmaker Stan James. Former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, someone who has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs, is offered at a price of 12/1, Solskjaer is currently manager of runaway Norwegian Eliteserien leaders Molde at the moment and is unlikely to make a drastic move with a place in European competition next season within their grasp.
