Platini trimmed to 7/4 with Bet365 to replace Blatter as FIFA President

New race to replace Blatter is on

Football News

There seems to be growing support for UEFA boss Michel Platini who has been asked by a lot of world football chiefs to stand for FIFA Presidency. It was announced on Monday that an extraordinary congress will be held on February 26, 2016, to elect a new president. This, of course, has all come about because of the scandals that have faced the world football governing body, several executives having been arrested under corruption and other charges.

At the end of May, Blatter was re-elected for a fifth term as FIFA President, but then just four days later told the world that he was going to step down from the role. Then he seemed to temporarily have a change of heart, saying that he wasn’t actually resigning, but he would be happy to leave it leave it to the electorate to choose what they wanted to happen.

Prince Ali bin al-Hussein who lost in the May election to Blatter was quick to call for Better just to resign already because the Swiss was just dragging out his presidency unnecessarily. Al-Hussein has long been seen as the successor to Blatter but hasn’t hinted as to whether or not he would be entering the race again.

Neither has UEFA boss Michel Platini, who many want the job to go to. He hasn’t made it clear as to whether he would want Blatter’s job or not either. But Platini had odds trimmed on Monday to 7/4 with online betting site Paddy Power, behind Al-Hussein still who is in as 11/8 favourite. Sheikh Ahmad Al-Sabah at 6/1, David Gill and Michael van Praag at 10/1, with Chung Mong Joon at 12/1 and Luis Figo at 14/1 with Bet365.

Online betting site Paddy Power are offering a quote of 8/13 on Under 4.5 FIFA Executives to be jailed while there is a quote of 6/1 on Blatter himself being imprisoned before January 1st, 2016.
